I have seen 2 home made versions. One was a wheel bolt with the head cut off and the other was a steel bar threaded at one end.
Never seen a MB one
good stuff two dogs,i think every G owner should have one!i am off to my dealer tomorrow to order one !
how much was you qouted by the way mate?
Nice one twodogs! Great idea - every G needs one, especially with the weight of some G wheels
Going to make one from old bolt and bit of roundbar
So why does the mighty Merc not simply fit a spigot like wot used to be fitted to the BX, simply a short 6mm bar with an extra matching hole in the rim ? Seems like a simple idea.

The tool cost about £4 plus vat in the UK
yes....but a140 p/n suggests that it was made for slabside s-class, which has smaller diameter bolts, so may not be 100% :?
Just got one - only £1.92 perfect fit on 460 - 14x1.5 thread - very useful bit of kit!
ok i'm getting 1 now. official enthusiast's tool
i usually use brute force and a center punch! but that looks like a great idea.
This is great ... I dread the thought of changing tyres .... part no noted!
Thanks!
I got mine yesterday but it is now part number A2045810074. Cost was € 1.86 + VAT (MRSP € 2.33 + VAT)
I've got two,but shakir has them both!!!
hope i dont need a wheel change till i see him!!!!
I never thought of this as a problem for anyone before, but when you think of it its a simple effective idea.
The most complicated thing I've seen M- Benz do recently on their cars sold on the Irish market is fit 4x alloys on the vehicle with long wheel studs and give a steel wheel in the boot and hide the short wheel studs used for this in the boot somewhere.
Then watch the misfortunate owner fit the steel wheel on the side of the road with the long bolts, tighten them up, sit in and drive off and in the process make bits of the hub, bearings, studs, brake and maybe even halfshaft within the first 20mts of realising something is wrong.
The very disgruntled owner then rings up his local main dealer to be told that full wheel changing instructions are provided in the handbook you fool, now payup.
Regards,
Mike
I like the story .Typical of cost saving methods of modern manufactures. I have seen pictures and heard stories of the long studs used on the 129 SL. They necked down between the conical section (which bears on the rim)and the head. This would regularly snap leaving the rim fixed securely with no method of removal except a machine shop. How forseeable is that.
My wheel removal tool arrived and it was close to £5, not the bargain that some folks have got.
Yeah Ive been in that situation with one of my w126's, had to cut the bloody alloy off in the end, luckily i had a spare.
