I am looking for a reliable G-Wagon that's affordable to run, i.e. more than 15mpg. I will be using it to carry stuff around so it needs to be a LWB model really as I understand that the rear seats don't collapse down (correct me if I'm wrong).

From what I have seen and read I think I want one of teh 463 models as they have the more modern interior etc.

All points of view and comments are appreciated.

Diesel will give the better fuel consumption.
463s have a newer interior, bit the 460 is certainly ok and better if you are using it as a workhorse.
It depends on your budget.
There is 463 GDL for sale on this site currently with 214k miles. They are quite rare to find.
The 460 disel is a bit more common
I use mine daily- slow and steady

The rear seats fold forward in two steps.
1) The back folds flat against the seat and can be locked in this position or
2) The seat then folds upwards and forwards 90.

Normall split 60/40.
