Done it again
I've gone and bought another one lads and lasses. An 89F silver 280GEL 9 seater with a grey check interior and a pretty high spec. Bought from forum member Ridd (cheers Giles!) and delivered today. Been sitting for a long long time with a cooked engine, needs doors but structurally canny. 2 owners from new, last change 2005 !!
And guess who's got a superb 280 twincam coupe engine on a stand in me' garage?.
Havent finished the first one and bought a second one!!?!??
Wife has ordered gentlemen in white coats and divorce lawyer lol.
Will be looking for doors and an alloy spare + carrier, and a nice spare cover!!!
Take me away people!?!?!
Anyone want a nice 560SEL !?!?
Sorry John I'm confused is this the one you posted pics of or have you got 3 now?!!
good luck john,i see you are aman of your word....
hope the wife gives in and you peacefully restore the G.
One good way to deal with that little "problem" - just say: "look, at least you won't find me down the pub chasing other women" 8)
Mind, I should so shut up! My missus good as gold what with putting up with me keeping double figures cars
Even converted her to a passion of older Mercs and a true love of G's(she gives them names, personalities and even decides if they are he's or she's)
that will be the one I sold him 6 weeks ago.

So you can tell us all the detail about it...
now, if shed let you buy that black one at the auction none of this would have happened!
ok, its a one owner from new, from sheffield, it was used to farm the kids to a jewish school from sheffield to leeds. It was going down the M1 when smoke was belowing out the back, it was towed to a garage where the guy said it was siezed, but I charged the battery and it turned over freely, but as the tiiming wheel (the green one)was not on it it wont start, but there was no clattering. Its was left on a drive for 3 years and covered in green slime. I paid £100 for it. I was going to do it up, or turn it into a pick up but then I bought a 560G so it had to go. Its worth the effort to restore, although the rear doors need attention.
I would put it back together if I were you as it may have been the valve guides causing the smoke.
Got an old 280 GE engine complete, it was replaced by mistake, so should be a runner, but all the bits are there, yours for picking up if you want it.
Bill, wish I'd got your message a few days ago lol. Now involved in 280CE to GE conversion :(
Much better then... the CE is the high-compression engine with 185 HP rather than the 150/155 HP of the GE and the fuel consunmption should be better at equivalent speeds...
3 !!!!
Ease up big man, you'll get me a reputation!
Tis the silver one, been waiting for delivery from Lincolnshire.
PS see other forum for a reponse to a q you asked me and i hadnt yet responded to, sorry.
