Tried the search function, but could only find one specific reference to this.

Anyone know typical fuel consumption of 1986 280GE with auto trans?

Reference I found suggested 22 litres of petrol per 100 km, which sounds like a lot. True?

Doc.

Re: Fuel Economy 280GE?

Short trips around 12-14mpg. It's easy to forget how thirsty ANY vehicle is when cold. Had a Toyota Yaris that would only do 11mpg when cold or 11 when hot and driven constantly at over 7500rpm :D :D :D

Easy cruising at around 55 mph may just crack 20mpg

About 14MPG, but remember your speedo is out about 3-4MPH, so its even less than you think, fit 33" tyres and the speedo is correct. Done checks on 230GE, 280GE and 560 auto's with GPS and the GPS is spot on.

Re: Fuel Economy 280GE?

someone on here had a nifty way of converting l/100km to mpg. Speak up?

Re: Fuel Economy 280GE?

Been on here before somewhere Tom,
Imp Gall = 4.546 l
100 km = 62.139 mile
So 4.546 * 62.139 = 282.48
So for example
Devide 282.48 by 22 l per 100 km = 12.84
or by 11 l per 100 km = 25.68 etc

EDITED, in reply

Re: Fuel Economy 280GE?

My 280 GEL auto will not top more than 15 mpg even on a long run cruising at 60mph average. Still would not change it for the world as a long distance cruiser. No speeding tickets either.Very rare vehicle in these parts so turns heads.

Re: Fuel Economy 280GE?

The beauty of these is that they offer respectable performance at a low purchase price. Power is the same as a 3.5 Range Rover V8, only more refined. Yes, the fuel consumption leaves much to be desired, but everyone knows that the RR doesn't need much persuasion to dip into single figures mpg. And what other G would you compare it to, performance wise - maybe a 290GDT, which is £8k more to buy. So, buying a 280 is really like free credit, paying instalments when you want to(by putting fuel into the tank)... :D
That is only true though if you are not doing mega miles, as over 60kmiles you would pay the same as buying a 290gdt outright and paying for its fuel over the same distance.
Or are my maths embarrasing me again :?

Re: Fuel Economy 280GE?

Yes it will. Expect around 20% increase in consumption(LPG has higher octane rating but lower calorific value. same volume has less energy)
