Re: steam cleaning the engine.

thanks for reply, just had it done, full chassis and engine done proper!!
Hot steam even got black wax of engine bay thats been there since new.
the bloke then sprayed wd40 in distributer etc, seemed like it was misfiring first but after a mile or so sorted itself out.

I have seen max (ask someone if you don't know who that is) do one of these jobs on a 463 LWB engine looked lovely but wouldn't start so he just cranked it for a good 30 seconds til it fired up and then floored in neutral it for another 20 seconds completely cold!!! That is the "expert" way to do it lol.

His cash isnt hard earned but his customers is!! That happened while I was waiting to test drive an expensive SWB 463, suffice to say that is the only time I went there and I only live about 15 miles away! Would rather get the train up to London to visit Mercedes of Mayfair if I ever get a G55

Re: steam cleaning the engine.

hus, if its the 280 you were cleaning, heres a tip. As there is quite a large chamber where the spark plug sits, this can fill with water. There is, if you get a torch, a small drain hole to allow any excess water to disperse from each chamber. These holes always fill up with debris, mix with oil and really clog up You should clean these holes out with a small screw driver or welding rod.
