replace rear exhaust tailpipe on 460 280 LWB
Can anyone talk me through replacing the rear tailpipe please.
I understand I need to lower the fuel tank by the straps but do I need to disconnect anything else ?.My G also has a small tank in the rear offside wheel arch would I need to do anything with that ?.
Obviously the tank will be empty but will it be a 4 handed job ?.
Any help much appreciated.

1st disconnect the battery.
There is a drain plug on the tank (caution though if there is any rot in it you could finish the tank off!). Makes for easier handling if its empty.
If you then support the tank on a trolley jack or similar you can then remove the straps. Disconnect the electrical connections to the fuel pump and various fuel pipes, pretty logical stuff.
You don’t need to remove the small auxiliary tank.
:D as you say drop the petrol , disconnect the all pipes at the top of the tank under the cover in the rear load bed ,disconnecet the pipe on the other side of the tank , disconnect the large jubilee clip on the aux tank under the rear wing, dissconnect the fual pump , losen the tank retaining straps try not to knacker them loads of WD40 help,
remove tank ...
have fun

there is no need to drop the tank IF you can free the old tailpipe from the silencer..undo the bolts holding the tail pipe to the two brackets you can see behind the right rear bumper..and the clamp on the silencer..plus the bracket on th tailpipe high up above the axle...all will draw out from below the right hand bumper. if your main tank is plastic.. bandage the section of tailpipe over the tank with roof insulation...use wire ties not cable ties...push the new tail pipe into position from under the bumper untill it locates onto the silencer. make sure it is far enough onto the silencer to allow the supporting brackets to hang "relaxed" tighten everything up.....and...happy motoring.

Hi GREAT NEWS and you still have fingers to cross ! ! the alignment is critical through the tunnel over the tank...especially if it is a plastic tank..rgds Peter
Hi If your serious with the Waxoil treatment remove the rearlight assemblies. clean out the mud and let the cavities dry and apply a liberal coat of Waxoil.also there are rubber drain bungs in the bottom of the centre door pillars which fill with mud ..remove and clean then use a long piece of small bore plastic pipe blanked at the end but with 2/3mm holes at frequent intervals along the length connect the hose to your applicacor and pump the waxoil (heated is easier) and it will inject the pillar from top to bottom.put the rubber bung back on completion. you can use the same technique for the bottom of the back door ---of course you may be doing all this anyway !! rgds Peter

Thanks for all the tips and prompt help. Now I understand why the later G's have a side exit exhaust. Its going to be interesting especially as in the summer I black waxoyled everything in sight. Watch this space !.
I now understand why I notice many members opt for stainless steel exhausts, unfortunately have already gone with the normal steel version.
