This is a bit of cheat as I joined in '85 but lapsed, I will try harder this time

My second G after a solid 300GD, I opted for a '85 280 GE, after a rather intersting drive home when it became aparant that the fuel leaked faster than you could use it! i spent time replacing brakes fuel lines (three leaks one near the exhaust!!) and then had the tank plastic sealed inside and out to stop the rust and repair further leaks.

Having had great fun for the last 15 months its now MOT time and i am having a spot of bother getting it through.

It had stopped running smoothly and I was having trouble starting, the problem was a cracked rotor arm, replaced this and put in new plug leads, sorted almost. I now can't get it through the emissions test even when setting it up so lean it almost won't run. I believe i need a new fuel distribution unit which will resolve the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where I could find one.

How did you get on with the problems? Try cleaning out the cold start valve before you spend any big money.

Mercfan,
the G had to take backstage this weekend I had a cartilage out on friday.

Although before that I managed to get it through the MOT testing, the first missfire was cured, a sticking diaphram, however when everything looked ok another misfire developed I think this is easier, it looks electrical and its my fault as I incorrectly fitted the new plug lead

Hopefully next weekend it will all be Ok and i then just need some proper off road tryes to keep me moving in our rather wet and muddy fields, last year i had the indignity of having to be towed out of one of them by my neighbouring farmer due to a complete lack of grip
