Re: central locking vdo pump

Hi glyn,on my cabrio in cyprus my central locking packed in after i had the G re-sprayed and i had a pnuematic item removed that connected to the central system .It was located on the left door on the side where the latch connects. It was held on by 2 screws.as you open the door it is almost level with the door handle..

Re: central locking vdo pump

thanks, but it's not the bit I'm trying to locate. I'm looking for where the main pump goes, the one that controls the whole system. when I got the g I thought it might not have c/l at all, but have found wiring in all the doors which must be for c/l (i.e. seperate from e/w. You can't really trace them from the doors to see where they go, 'cos they disappear off into oblivion. Any ideas?

Re: central locking vdo pump

from personal experience when an early g has central locking, it was the typical merc vacuum system that they used for decades.on a long wheelbase it is to be found wrapped in a foam outer in the locker under the passengers seat.a lot of the later 460s i have played with have had an electric system but i cant say if that was merc or local dealer or aftermarket fitted.

Mark,

You are right with regards to early GWagens but most 460s and all 463s have electric pumps.

Glyn, is this what you are after?

Re: central locking vdo pump

Thanks for photo - what I have doesn't look like that, it looks like this. The nuumbers on it are 126 800 04 48, it says VDO and Mercedes Benz on it (sorry if I'm stating the obvious, Glyn is out "doing stuff" and has left me in charge  of I.T.) Sarah

Re: central locking vdo pump

To Hu55: Yes, that is the RHS front door of my G

To Glyn: Funny because i did not recall having seen a VDO part in the door locking system of a GWagen. I did a search in the EPC and found that this is a part exclusively fitted to the W126 S-Class. So this looks like retro-fitted by a previous owner...

As far as I know, the system fitted to the G-Wagen was made by Kiekert http://www.kiekert.de/ , not VDO.

Cheers

Re: central locking vdo pump

Right, thanks for all the help. Back to the beginning: my G obviously had c/l at some point, there is wiring in all the door panels. There is a hole in the driver's locker big enough for the wiring to pass through, but no sign that the pump was ever fixed here (i.e. bolt holes). I was already buying a UJ from a breaking G on eBay, so I bought the c/l pump at the same time, assumed it would be original to G wagen. The bloke I bought it from said it came from the driver's locker, but I can't find the wiring to join it to! All I can see is that the wiring from the door panels disappears into the dash somewhere, I've had a good furtle round and it's definitely not in the engine bay. What d'you think? It's not essential to the running of the car, but would be nice if I could get it up and running. Thanks, Glyn

Re: central locking vdo pump

Like I thought, SA59167 (Central locking) has no centre pump, but one activator per door:

Left front door is A0038203242
Right front door is A0038204910
Rear doors, 2x A0038203242
Tail gate is A0038203342

Re: central locking vdo pump

phew, don't fancy spending 500 euro on door locks! Thanks for the help though. Still scratching my head about where those wires go to. They are the same wires as on the VDO pump I've got (did I mention it cost a fiver?), so I'm sure I can get it to work if I can just trace them. Next stop technical rep? how do I get hold of my local rep? I'm in the republic of ireland. In the meantime, I'll try the electrical forum, there might be some sparkies hanging out there.
cheers then, Glyn
