230 GE water pump service
The water pump has had a small leak since I aquired it 1.5 years ago. The leak is slowly getting worse and I think it is time for servicing. Is the pump servicable or do I need to replace it? Is the procedure the same as the 300ge that is posted in the D.I.Y. section of the clubwagen site? Any insights to this issue would be greatly appreciated!...:
Sorry, I cannot find the article you're talking about, http://www.clubgwagen.com/gtech.php?sid=listAll&pageTitle=Article%20Inde...
, but what I can tell you is that your engine (M102) is virtually the same as the one fitted to the 300GE (M103) (except for the fact that yours is a four cylinder and the 300's is a in-line six)
As for the pump itself in Europe they are very cheap direct form Mercedes because they tend to be exchange parts and when you return the old one you are refunded with a lot of cash.
They should be easy to source in the US of A as well given that the engine is shared with the saloon cars.
Cheers

Shop around! You will find it for half that price - and remember mercedes don't make their own waterpumps.
Are you in Golden Gate SA? If so, I am shippng some G bits for a friend next week, I can put a punp on the pallet if you want, but you'll have to get it from Pretoria to Golden Gate. Alternatively contact Johann Marx on http://gwagenclub.co.za/forum/public_forum.php
all the leaking is coming from the weep hole on the bottom of the pump. Is there a way to plug this to stop the leaking?...
No, No, this is time to replace the pump as the obvioualy the seal inside the pump has gone and soon the bearing will be gone as well.
The seal is almost certainly available as a separate part. But wait.
You would also want to replace the bearing as well as the seal. This probabaly requires a press of some sort to remove/ replace(I'm guessing)
Is it worth doing all that work when you can (at least in the UK) pick these pumps up inexpensively. I did mine on a 300 diesel.
Whilst you are in there check the condition of the belt tensioner pulley and associated parts. If you have a high mileage engine it may be prudent to replace that also if it has play.

Sometimes (and I say sometimes) it is cheaper to buy from Mercedes. I can't say about the pump for the M102 but I bought the pump for my 300 GD (OM617) and after the surcharge was refunded I think it was like £ 30 + VAT.
Hi again,
I have entered the P/N you quote in your message in the EPC and it cannot find any model of Mercedes that it can have been fitted to.
I have however searched for the part number for your engine. The original part number was A1022000720 and has been replaced with A1022003201 and then with A1022004101, which appears to be the current part.
The EPC lists this part as supplied as new or reconditioned part. The price new is a hefty € 332.92 in Europe, but as I said, I suspect that the reconditioned exchange part will be a fraction of this.
The gasket joining the engine block and the waterpump is part no. A1022010180 and is listed for € 1.24 in Europe
In any event, more accurate information can be obtained if we had he complete VIN of your G.
Cheers
Pump is number 8 and gasket is number 23
Wow Jesus,
Why are you not employed by Daimler Chrysler ?
No, honestly I am very impressed with what you can and do produce for our eddification,
I on the contrary am having REAL difficulties with the ECDL course.
Ca sera, sera. :?:

The seal is part no. A000 201 98 19 and gasket A102 201 01 80.
It is possible to replace the seal separately, worth a go.
Any MB dealer should be able to get the parts for you. Give your local dealer a ring , quote the no. and see what response you get. If not try a European dealer, the postage would be minimal for a seal.#
In my old 300 GD which was powered by the OM617 5-in-line I was able to change the water pump without removing the radiator, and I would assume that my engine is longer than yours. I remember it being a freezing January morning in the South of England, wet and miserable and I lost all the sensitivity in my fingers because I did not own a garage back then....
Protect the rad with plywood or caedboard and give it a go, nothing to lose. If you can't do it remove the rad
Thank you all for your time and thoughts in responding. After some testing, all the leaking is coming from the weep hole on the bottom of the pump. Is there a way to plug this to stop the leaking?...
