FOUND ANGEL EYES HEADLAMPS FOR MY 460 AT LAST.
I have been looking out for these headlamps now for about a year and a half. I fitted a set of drive lamps into the air ducts of my vito which looks really individual. Now i will give the halo ring look like on the 5 series BM's and X5's.The lamps have a clear glass and chrome inner reflector like mw clk.Once i learn how to attach pics i have many a photo to share of my G which has already received great comments from some gwoa members that i've sent pics to.WAIT TILL YOU SEE HOW I'VE FABRICATED THE SUMP OF MY 603 ENGINE AFTER IT GOT A KISS FROM THE DIFF..!!!
Look forward to your pics of your G. Glad to see thers another Essex boy on the site. I,ve some ( not fond) memories of Hollywoods in Romford.
Some pics of HUS55
some more
Thats not Essex.
WAIT TILL YOU SEE HOW I'VE FABRICATED THE SUMP OF MY 603 ENGINE AFTER IT GOT A KISS FROM THE DIFF..!!!
Wow, don't tell ME that you have fitted to OM 603 engine to your G using the sump from the W124 version! This sump is much bigger than that fitted to the G and will obviously interfere with the suspension play of the front diff. So obvious that I am surprised you never realised that before!
In any event, a used sump from a G is very, very hard to come buy and a new one from Mercedes must be over € 300!!!
C'mon, show us those pics!
I had a test drive in this car back in August, fantastic engine conversion.some mind blowing practical solutions as well hence the diff and the sump
When I take my G back to Cyprus this might be the way forward for me as well, because Autogas is not available there but I got a hand transfer pump for that...see how it works more of this later
Hello jesus. i am chuffed that you seemed impressed and almost shocked about the use of the original sump as i consider you the DON....! of this forum(not forgetting BILL MOSS ofcourse)
Naaa... Bill knows a boatload more about Gs than me but in my discharge I would argue that I am much better looking than him 8)
It's just that I also fitted a OM603 from a W124 into my G, but given that mine had a similar engine we used the old sump because we realized that the new one would be hit by the diff.
But naturally we had both ones side by side which made things much easier
At least you are honest Jesus!I have met Bill in person and he is a wealth of knowledge for sure. But where is he?No response from him yet,i guess he's offroading somewhere.I plan on going up to see him soon.Another issue i have is engine temp .In town and on straight roads it was fine but pushed up hill(kyrenia mountain pass BILL KNOWS WHERE IT IS) the temp needle would nudge pass the lastline towards red ,is my rad upto cooling the 603 engine as i have no room to fit a bigger one.In one of my pics you can see the twin 11" kenlowes which made little difference.
As far as I know the temperature of your engine is entirely normal. 460s tend to behave just like that. Even the user's manual for the 300 GD (OM 617) states that you can still for a few miles with the gauge in the red zone after which you should relieve the pressure of the right foot or simply stop.
Fact is that your engine (OM603) was cooled by a more efficient all aluminium radiator in the 463. In my G, I can drive at 130 Km/h uphill all day long on the motorway with 40º outside and with the aircon at full blast and the gauge would stay at 85º. The problem with this one is that the cores run horizontally rather than vertically and it makes it more prone to clogging, which is a terminal problem because nobody would dare to repair it (and a new one costs € 900).
Therefore, I would simply have your present radiator professionally cleaned or even recored to ensure that it works in tip-top condition.
Cheers
that softop looks very well
a credit to its owner
Your mate did a great job, the ability and inginuity of the Turkish Cypriots is often under estimated. Two things I would look to doing because of the terrain and climate, one improve your oil cooling two fit higher ratio diffs both are available as MB parts.
Yes I remember the Kyrenia pass and the mountain road from there to Morphu, have they removed the Greek mines yet ??? Now that was an off road challenge in a land rover 2a in the winter of 63. "Was that a hornet boss, no a Greek sniper corporal. get your foot down. hahaha.
BEHR seem to be a favoured manufacturer of lots of parts used on Gs, must be Germany equivelant of Unipart. I will bring my G down to Essex mate, you can take your own pics, we can swing the lamp and I'll show you some astounding info and pics of your islands history, well 60's / 70's any way.
Well steve, i maybe an essex boy by name but not by nature!! Romford is more like the bronx now, so i hear.I tried to attach a pic but got message saying pic too big.How do i down sizethe picture format to attach.?I have a gut feeling that these angel eyes will become a standard feature one day.aBy the way What G do drive?Any pics on the forum and whats with the porsche interest?
