I notice that the company below are converting the old petrol pinzgauer to derv using the mercedes 617 power plant that makes for one very usable offroader , but maybe a bit slow .
I know i could phone the company but i will ask here first will the engine go straight in ?

Re: Pinzgauer 712M

Twodogs,
Saw and grilled this outfit at the CLA Gamefair, they had the propotype on the stand, I asked which diesel and suggested the 617 but he did not know ( apparently ), yes it was a N/A indirect injection 5 cyl, I said that will only be 88 hp then, etc, etc. I should have taken it for a test drive in the evening when there were less people about.
But No it will not go "straight in", a lot of fabrication and modification was involved, per the rep and also my own observations, there was very little daylight showing round the edges
I drove the petrol 712 at the War & Peace, took it odd having to rev the guts out of the engine, and no they are not infallible, the wee mickey mouse track that they had round the edge of the field defeated it albeit only where there was a steep climb out of a big puddle, but it was on comprimise tyres at road pressures, and the marl ? was like grease.
Cheers,

Yes Twodogs,
I forgot to mention the Prinzguar gear change is not good/strange layout, but keep her in first and attempt to rev the nuts off was advised, for the bad bits anyway.

Hi I was at the CLA Game Fair too as an exhibitor, I was driving my G wagen round the field on the set up day and saw the stand with the Pinz's, was a nice chap had a good chat about G's n stuff although he said I was pronouncing "puch" wrong apparently. Seem like a company that will be around for a while though.

The specification and the picture of the engine that company shows in their website is not that of a OM617 (as fitted to the W460 300GD with 88HP) but that of a OM602 DE 29 (as fitted to the W461 290 GD with 94 HP), basically similar to the one fitted to the W463 300 GD but with five cylinders rather than 6:

It is a very nice and tractable engine, though I fail to understand why they do not fit the Sprinter engine (OM602 DE 29 LA) which would bring much more power and torque.

Re: Pinzgauer 712M

Funny they quote 98hp. OM602 i think it is though, also fitted to the 210D, 310D, and 410D versions of the old (but still loved :D ) T1 commercials. Must be 1000's of them still around.

Re: Pinzgauer 712M

Aye but I presume they needed an indirect injection engine, direct injection would be a tad noisey. This is assuming the OM 602 DE 29 LA is direct injection, it is is'nt it ? or is  in order.
I hasten to add I did not read the "Blurb", apparently nither did the salesman
