All,
I posted a question about this a while back, and was told that some MB Vans have the same Blower.

I intended to have a good at removing it and taking the seized unit to a scrap yard to match one, but whereas it takes 15mins on a C-Class to remove the fan, I cannot see how to remove it from my G230 1987 460 ??

Winter is coming, and I need to have a fan working to defrost everything!

I would even buy a new MB fan if I can't get this one working, but need to get at the thing first.

Thanks for any hints how to do it.

Unfortunately, you will have to dismantle the whole of the dashboard to access the motor. This is an eight-hour job if you take it easy enough!

The 460 is very much like a Meccano set, just use your logic in undoing screws, bolts and nuts and you will gain access to it. Start by removing steering wheel and glovebox and you will eventually get there.

my one was changed in about 5 hours, what a mess it was. used a brand new fan unit of a 307/308 van exactly the same, good luck and don't forget "patience is a virtue"

I thought I would update this thread...

It was indeed a 'pig' of a job. I couldn't get a replacement fan, so I painstakingly removed the old one and re-built it (sounds grand - it just needed new bushes/commutators). Putting it back together was easier, even after a 6 month winter break in between during which I forgot which order to do things - still it worked and was able to tidy up the radio wiring out at the same time.

My only tip would be - when you get to removing the blower housing, it has to be twisted down, over and out, whilst connected to wires, and its a tight fit. Also, I would in hindsight have preferred to buy the new blower given all the time it took - I think it was £150.
