Fuel tank guard and straps
Fitted replacement on Saturday. MB have changed the design, what a job. The rain didn't help either.

tell me about it!! the 'front' end of the strap has got a differnet design to it , better/more secure design but lots of sweary words (by mechanic at local independant MB) !!
But a pair of straps is about £70 .. and all they are are mild steel with a fancy end and an M10 thread with poor paint finish that will die in about 5 years. You could make them up real easy by reusing the ends. I redid mine, plus rubber strips, plus all foam bits, plus chassis rubber strips and it was about £150 in parts plus £20 cash to repair the tank - note MAKE SURE the rubber strips to keep it off the chassis are fitted .. mine was missing one side so rust perforated Derv fuel tank; local radiator repair shop brazed a patch over it.
Did it by myself with car on axle stands at max height and fuel tank balanced on a plank on end of trolley jack ... a mess about but doable.
i didnt have my old ones to reuse !!! - they are somewhere in a corner of england!
Well seeing you live, and were born in, I'm guessing there ? , Scotland Mgrays

PS those wee batteries just look lost in the big square tray.

The straps are longer and you have to drop the tank to get them on. You will also need the rubber strips which sit between the straps and the guard.
You will need to undo all the connections under each wheel arch and on the fuel pump at the front of the tank. Drain the fuel first.
It is a two man job.
