Per a comment by Jesus, in response to Ian's posting/photos from the recent military show
The only difference in the 463 and the worker is the bodywork ie the worker gets the 460/461 bodywork
But surely there is not that big a difference in the manufacturing costs of the old ( 460/461 ) and new ( 463 ) bodywork,
I understand from an earlier comment that the 460 and 463 bodies were not easily interchangable but understood that this was largely due to the different mounting arrangments.
So surely it should be more cost effective to install the 463 bodywork to all.
Is this apparent perversity on DC's part,
( a ) simply a perversity,
( b ) or is there a good or reasonable reason for same.
Perplexed I am,
Marcus

I don't think that to install the 463 bodywork would be more cost effective than offering both the older and the newer. Bear in mind that Grazs is not a normal factory, almost everything is done manually so great flexibility is retained to change specification in every single G produced.

The 461 must be much cheaper to fit than the 463 if only becuse of the reduced level of equipment, trim, etc.

And of course, there is the group of hard-core GWagen enthusiasts who want a basic, utilitarial, functional G-Wagen to be offered and even resent the sophisticated electronics that the worker has. The G290 GDT was the definite G and everybody is wondering why on earth did MB decided to stop making it!

Oh, Er, but surley you contradict yourself Jesus in that the level of trim is what costs and since all is handbuilt, it would be as cheap to not trim a 463 as to not trim a 461.
Anyway, no odds,
Marcus
