Alarms and passive immobilisers

Anybody know if the early 463 diesels came as standard with either an alarm or a passive immobiliser. I vaguely remember when they were launched that there was mention of such devices, but can't find one on mine. However, I do have two pin switches in the door frame, one presumably for the interior light and one - I guess - for a passive immobiliser or alarm.... Or is it? The insurance companies are very keen on security devices these days and I have no wish to lie and say I have one when I may not! Equally, I don't want to be penalised for not having one when there might well be one fitted. You see my dilemma?
So, if anybody knows for sure, I'd be grateful for a pointer one way or the other.

Re: Alarms and passive immobilisers

Mike,

Checking the equipment on the UK specification data sheet of early 463 G-Wagens, I could find none of such devices. Also, I could not recall having seen any early 463 G-Wagens with any of these factory-fitted.

Anyway, to get in the safe side, why don't you check the data sheet of your particular sheet in your friendly MB stealership? Failing this, you can always input the VIN in this website and get it:

Good luck!

Just to point out what I think is the correct use of the 2nd pin switch on the door, one is for the lights, the other is for the windows (ever wondered how come your windows can be opened/closed even if the key is not in the ignition? Well it only works with a door open, stops soon as you close it)
I love Mercedes for that touch, no need to put the key back in the ignition if you forget to close the window.

Re: Alarms and passive immobilisers

I had the same problem recently when my insurance company asked about the immobilizer fitted to my G.
MBUK fitted Scorpian alarms and immobilizers locally to the Gs. The MB chap I spoke to (head of service) used to fit them himself in 1990s. He saw the remote and the sticker on my window and recognised it immediately as genuine. The fitting was carried out by the service guys in the workshop. I always knew mine was not factory as the wires were carelessly installed and not at all neatly finished. Although the alarm and immob. both work fautlessly today.
So the kind MB dealer wrote a letter confirming that the G was fitted with a MB alarm and immob which was Thatcham approved at the time of fitment. Insurance co. was satisfied and everyone was happy. Post a pic of your remote and alarm sounder and I will tell you whether its similar to mine.
Scorpian no longer trade so parts are difficult to obtain. Don't put the remote through the washer machine like my wife did

Re: Alarms and passive immobilisers

i had problems insuring my 460 because the insurance company are stipulating cat 1 alarm/imobs across the board now, got a toad one installed with a certificate to appease the insurance company and all for 200 installed and he even came out to fit it. i presume they are worried about them being stolen for parts?
