Max says the G55s he is selling do circa 155 mph. MB in Germany say they are limited to 210kph (130mph ish). Having driven a 500 the last thing I would want to do in one is 155.

Re: G 55

I would think anywhere near 155 mph would be an impossibility, even if one were to lower and tune the suspension

In my view all things with rigid axles should stay the right side of 100.

Re: G 55

I *THINK* the G55Ks are capable of 155 if you remove the limiter... but at that point and for that much £££ I would rather own a nice porsche AND a G500...

I agree, it will do it, but is is limited for a good reason, namely staying on the road.

Re: G 55

Frankly, if I wanted or needed to travel at those sorts of speeds, I would not waste my time and money adapting a G, whose main functionality can never be as a hot-rod. By all means use the power for acceleration/overtaking, or fast hill climbs, etc- but let's be realistic.

On the other hand, I ask you all, would it be worthwhile starting a special G-only category of motor racing, so that at least there would be some point in such conversions? Perhaps MB could sponsor a team to start things going!

Re: G 55

There are a few guys in the US who take them on the track, enter drag races and trans-continental races with their Gs.... one guy in a tuned Kleeman G58 Cabriolet... can you imagine the wind noise... can't remember what his top speed was but he was still itching to make it faster....

Anyhow where are you ever going to get the chance (especially in the UK) to even hit 130mph - yet alone 155mph.... in a G? And what if a big cross wind hits you!!!

Re: G 55

I believe they are restricted because of the tyre rating for the stock tyres from the factory

I think if they sorted the tyre problem it would still not be allowed. Porsches are not designed to go up and down mountians and Gs are not designed to go down the fast lane at 155.

What about the Paris-Dakar? Would it be suitable for that?

A G won that many many years ago. But they are not competitive today - far too heavy.

Having said that I think a G400 entered last years but it was completely stripped down and I believe the a lot of the body was replaced with carbon fibre body panels.

Mortinson will have your answer.
