I've been reading about Bio-ethanol as a viable alternative to petrol and was wondering if anyone else has had any experience or knows anything about it?

I've read that it may be rolled out next year in this country so it would be good to know whether this would be viable for G owners to convert to? Would it be a simple conversion, or would we be looking at major bucks?

Not only would it be environmentally friendly with very low co2 emissions but it could be quite a bit cheaper than petrol. Thoughts?

Re: Bio-ethanol

During apartheid in South Africa there was a fuel shortage because of santions. This lead to the banning of the use of petrol for motor racing, leading to the development and use of ethanol as fuel. My father used to race on ethanol, I'll check with him, but as far as I am aware of he just had to ajust his jets and settings. He used to race V8 Fords, and they could use it , so will our G's.

Re: Bio-ethanol

That sounds encouraging. I had hoped that as the engines on the G are so robust that an alteration would be all it would take. But I don't want to get my hopes up!

Would anyone know if there would be any issue with the use of ethanol and any parts within the engine? Like for instance like the difference between using leaded and unleaded in some engines? I would like to establish whether ethanol would have any corrosive effects.

Also would the engine need to undergo the same sort of conversion process as for LPG? Or potentially could we use the existing set up, just make adjustments, but using the same tank etc?
