I got an interesting e-mail from Fredecosse asking for information about a new G-Wagen he just bought. It is a C-reg 300 Cabrio and he was asking for the datacard of the vehicle which I have just sent him by e-mail.

He dis also ask another question:

would I be able to find out how the seats were at the back ?? as there are none just now...??

Well, the thing is that 300 GD Cabrios are very rare indeed in RHD and only a handful were imported into the UK around 1986. The particularity of these is that they were never marketed as "Cabrios" but as "Open Pick-ups". As such, they lacked rear seats and they bore option code P81 "folding top, removable, without side windows" ¡n their datasheet, rather than the more mainstream "with side windows" alternative.

So the mistery is solved. You have not bought a Cabrio but a pick up and a rare one for that matter!

Enjoy!

Re: Fredecosse's new 300 GD Cabrio

Hi, i also have a 1987 230ge cabrio lhd.It is red with black leather. It has central locking but the solenoid in the drivers door has stopped workingIt has original front heated seats and an outside temp guage,i have just found a set of extra rear seats to make it a 7 seater.keeping it in north cyprus since 1990 has resulted in zero rust but the sun has caused minor problems to the trim which i hope to slowly renew with help from guys on the forumThe soft top has the folding frame but the gas struts need changing.i hope someone out there could tell me how the front gas struts work with the folding bar and how the original canvas fitted into the strip above the windscreen as i think someone in the past tried a diy job at some time.My G has been pictured on the gwoa with the roof down infront of some palm trees

Re: Fredecosse's new 300 GD Cabrio

I have one that made it all the way to Santa Barbara, CA. It has been sitting on the ranch for about 20 years and only has 24,800 miles!!! I just got it running again. 1986 300GD RHD Black and white automatic with no luxury options at all!!

Can anyone tell me what the knob to the left of the radio does?
