Merc Spring Chart
I would be grateful if somebody could supply me with a copy of the Mercedes Benz spring chart as I would like to calculate the springs for my 290 GTD which unfortunately has a broken rear spring.
Mercedes do a range of springs from the originals to upgrades, depending on what you want to do with your truck. For example for those wanting to tow heavy trailers or carry heavy loads on expeditions etc you would most likely chose the white springs
example
rear axle weight..........1000kg
axle and wheels............200kg
this gives a force of 800kg or 8000N
thats 4000N / spring
so if you add your specific payload ( 2 small children or 300l of fuel and enough food and camping gear for a month) you can see which spring colour you should choose to give the required ride height form the chart. The springs are also stripped. There is about 5mm difference between 1 and 2 stripes and actually comes about through the settling variations in the hardening process.
Chris Payne a club member has white springs all round and have never bottomed out even after taking off fully laden on corrugations in the desset at 70mph. There is practically no body roll, though Sachs super touring HD shocks must help a little
The web site I found the original chart was from
http://www.mb-g.de/gdaten/thread.php?id=136&mark=136 but this appears to be closed.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
