Hello all
I will soon be the proud owner of a 1984 280 GE that will be prepared for greenlaning weekends to Wales ,
what modiforcations do you recommend ?
all body work will be repaired before any mods .
Engine change to derv 617 or will if i can track one will a 617a go in ?
Stay with the petrol ?
Change the gear box ? which one am i after ?
is it worth a 2" lift ? if so where can i get the correct rate springs ?
what is a the best tyre size on standard steel rims ?
Can i fit a raised air intake ?
Will a OEM landrover roof rack fit ?
loads of questions but as you know you need to sort a plan .
hope you can help
Cliff

The lanes will not be very green when you have finished with them -- by the sound of all those mods.

If its just for greenlaning then just leave the 280 in it. Unless you have the know how, spare engine and time to fit a diesel.

Go for a good mud terrain which give you about 33".
2" lift is more than enough. Or lift the body instead. that way you dont mess to much with castor angle.

if its auto then leave it, if its 4 speed manual then leave it.

I would manufacture your own air intake, it wil be cheaper
You might want to speak to our Chairman, he might have a roof rack thats for sale???.

Agree with PP leave the 280, I certainly don't get the diesel unless you are planning to submerge it :D

150bhp, and yes the torque of a straight 6 petrol maybe a bit high up the rev range but at least it’s got some.

Also stick with the auto.
