Can someone please inform me what connection we have in the GWOA
with Max ?
I have heard nothing but bad about this character and wonder why my
subscription is involved with his business and dealings.
I am an amateur who occasionally helps local G-wagen owners and feel
very sorry for any-one who deals with caversham and associated dealers.
This Forum has made it very plain that max is very corrupt and dishonest
to the point that it is rumoured he is looking to emigrate to Ausralia.
Please enlighten me.

Don't know about corrupt and he might actually believe everything he says, but I have met him, seen his operation and would not buy from him! Australia? Be interesting to see what the G market in the UK looks like if he does. Not that he controls it (as he likes to dream) more like hinders it!

Re: Max ?

I know nothing about the man but my only experience with him was (how can I put it politely?) unconventional. I went down to Caversham on a Saturday morning to look at various Gs. After an hour or so I decided to buy a G500 and we agreed a price. I gave him a cheque. The following day, Sunday, I changed my mind and phoned him saying that, on reflection I did not, after all, want to buy the car. I also wrote to the bank to stop the cheque.

The next thing I knew was that Mr Macarthur sent me a bill for £500 as compensation for his taking the trouble to meet me on a Saturday! Needless to say, I did not pay the invoice. But it did leave a strange taste in my mouth. I would, as a result, be less than keen to go there again.

Max has no involvement with the club in any financial way, other than possibly being a member(I don't know either way). The club does not as far as I know have any preferential arrangements with him. Historically, he used to advertise in the club magazine.

Re: Max ?

Speak as I find, and I personaly find nothing wrong with Max, Two observations, One. if any one ever makes unproven allegations about me and my character on this forum they will find them selves up to there chin in litigation, Two, if any one came to my place wrote me a cheque they knew they wouldnt or couldnt honour, they would find themselves in the same position as at One.
I am truly amazed that you seem to think it is open season to attack a person just because he doesnt do things the way you feel he should, how he runs his business is his business.
I do an awful lot of favours and give an awful of help to members of GEOA.
I will think carefuly in future before I aquire the same stigma as Max.
If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.

Re: Max ?

Had a bad day Bill!!!!!!!.

I dont see anyone here making allegations other than what Fillan has read about from irrate clients. Its unfortunate that there are few who post good things to say about him. I myself am on the fence. But I have spoken to many upset clients of his, but I have not heard many good. Maybe the good ones are to busy to join our club or post on such things as a forum, so we never hear the good things about him. We all know bad news is spread quicker than good.

He did advertise in the early years and anyone who purchased a G from him was automatically given 1 years free membership. He doesnt have anything to do with the club anymore. I can say I gave up doing the magazine because of Max, but also lack of support from the committee over this incident.

Owalston:

As my memory serves me well. I believe this indivdual can and would honour a cheque for £500. He, I understand, decided to purchase a G400CDI and had a brabus conversion, which did, I also believe end up in a nasty crash which was enough to write it off. It could be taken Bill that you are making allegations that this man could not or would not honour a cheque. Be careful!

This forum does have freedom of speech and we can, and do regulate comments if we feel they are bad enough to delete.

I believe a forum gives advise, good or bad. Its up to the individual to make there mind up if the advise is good or bad.

Bill, Bill... I think you said it all: by contrast Max wouldn't do a favour to his dying mother if she did not produce the money to pay for it up front! That's why you are a loved member of the G-Wagen community and some others aren't. No danger then of you acquiring the same stigma as Max.

In any event, I quite agree with you in that everybody is entitled to run his business in his own way... but then we are entitled to crucify him for that!

Re: Max ?

Mr Moss sounds an interesting person with a strongly developed moral fervour. And for those of you who forgot, let me repeat his final ringing peroration. "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing."
Fine words indeed. But it would appear that Mr Moss is perfectly happy to say about me that I wrote out a cheque I knew I "wouldn't or couldn't honour". I am used to having words put in my mouth but that is simply laughable - and not very pleasant either. All I did was to change my mind. Now maybe Mr Moss has never changed his mind, in which case he is a rare - and lucky - individual. One thing is certain, he is clearly a very litigious individual because he tells us that if anyone did to him what I did - change my mind - he would sue. It is all rather sad.

I am in now way attacking Mr Macarthur. I am, however, recounting an incident which took place and I am happy for members of this forum to draw their own conclusions. In the meanwhile Mr Moss's solicitor will doubtless be a busy man.
