Good day & a happy new year to you all!!!
I have entered & been accepted for the 2006 macmillan 4x4 challenge.
We will be using a well abused 1986 280G to have a go at the landy/pajero world. The event is to raise money for the macmillan nurses who as you all know do a wonderful job.
You guessed it, i am looking for sponsors. Whether as individuals or companies, all money is more than welcome. if a company sponsors me for more than £100, they can supply me with some of there company stickers, logos, web links etc. The stickers & so on will be on the car & the web links will be on the mac4x4challenge website, but please note that the publicity on the vehicle may not increase your profits but hopefully will make you feel better about spending your company money.
I look forward to many pledges from club members in the very near future.
Many thanks in advance,
Merv!

Re: mac 4x4 challenge

I am sure that the £100,000 price tag for the last g55 amg`s would be better spent with the macmillan nurses.
Have you ever lost someone close through cancer peter?

Re: mac 4x4 challenge

The 2006 mac challenge came & went. a thoroughly good time was had by all, we were the only G in a mountain of land rovers & pajeros.
the start was at clyro nr hay on wye at 8.30pm on the fri, we then set off to woodland offroad centre near haverfordwest, we were no 37 to leave & got to our first destination 8th after clearing several check points enroute. we then joined the 0245 ferry for rosslare & managed a couple of hours kip after a briefing & being issued with the maps for the next day.
once in eire,we had several pionts to rendezvous at after following some interesting route through the countryside, the off road sectrions were i believe managed by the IFWDC who did a sterling job for us all.
After a rush around the emerald isle, we were on the 8.30pm ferry for hollyhead, another couple of hours kip, then on to snowdonia & the snow. one check point we had to make was the cafe on horseshoe pass. closed unfortunatly due to 2 feet of snow! after that, it was down to the valley & out of the snow & head for warrington for the finish.
would love to attatch a photo or two, not sussed that out yet, any ideas?
no hope of an early night, formal dinner & results.
for our first attempt in the oldest car there, i was quite pleased to get 36th place out of 57 entrants.
Finaly, i would like to thank all of the GWOA members who sponsored me in this event as we managed to raise £1250 for the macmillan nurses.
p.s. while in eire, we got invited to a similar event over there to raise funds for the temple street childrens hospital in dublin (their version of gt ormond street) far as i know, we will once again be the oldest car entered & once again i shall be pestering you for sponsorship!! please start saving!!!
