hello ,

a friend of mine has fallen in love with my g and is thinking about getting one himself. the problem is he only wants a diesel automatic. i told him that hes got more chance of uncovering a whore house in westminster abbey than finding one so now hes thinking about converting one.

from those who know so much more, what is easiest to do, have a diesel g and add an auto 'box, or have a petrol g with an automatic 'box and add a diesel engine? any information would be great.

regards,

Tom

p.s would it have to be the 300 diesel engine or could you add something more spicy?

Re: Dieesel Automtic Conversions

Tom,

Please be more specific.

Would it be a 460 or a 463 G-Wagen?

How much cash is he willing to get walled in this project?

Cheers

sorry, i think hes just going for the 460, he didnt specify cash amount though.

out of interest though is it much harder on the 463, when im earning a full wage its my aim to upgrade myself.

Re: Diesel Automatic Conversions

The 460 was more common with diesel auto than the 463. There have been a few for sale over the last few months. I would suggest watching the adds and buying 1 rather than a conversion which would always be requiring more work. The diff ratios are different between auto /man. The auto box is specific to the G so you would be buying new from MB or finding a donor vehicle in a wrecking yard... along with the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

I agree with Roly. Better buy what you want than burying a lot of new money in an old car. I can tell you out of own experience!
