useless unless you have the ecu and key for the engine, it'll never start, its all connected, a nightmare unless you spend ££££££££££££££££'s on a bespoke ecu. and you wont get that from merc.

Well, if it was stolen, it would have been so with the ECU, wouldn't it?
And if it comes from a broken-up for parts accidented truck then you can always gor to Mercedes and buy the ECU from them... provided that you have the VIN to be able to order it!

wrong, if it is an insurance write off the car is broken without keys. If you are lucky enough to get the keys then the comapny breaking the car is breaking the law. Tony baskill has just purchased an insurance write-off. He was not given the keys or ecu so the car could not be put back on the road. He has to have a new ECU made (£££££££££££) to enable to the engine to start. Even giving the chassis and engine number will not allow MB to supply you with one as its shown as a write off???. He cannot use the gearbox either because the ecu is the mapping for engine and gearbox and each ecu is mapped to each indivdual car on later merc's.
Thats what I was told by TB.
