Having spent about 3 months (I know not long) reseaching I now feel able to narrow down my query.

My choice for my first G is focused on a G500 or G270/320 CDi. having spoken to Nik Wheelhouse it would see that for my price range it will be LHD and that only the G500 is in UK spec.

my questions are:
How easy is it to import?
Is Germany the best source country?
is the potential price saving worth the effort?
lastly where do I begin seacrhing? - (german autotrader? or can anyone recommend a list of dealers/search agents etc)

The first G will be ideally less than say 7 years old and LWB as will be primary family wagon for long trips with kids etc.

All advice gratefully received.

Re: Import or wait for right UK G?

I’ve recently bought a G Wagen over from Germany, and am in the process of registering now. The process is well covered on the DVLA web site.

The two main places to look are www.mobile.de and www.autoscout24.de . Both cover most of Europe.

The main plus for buying abroad is not just in saving money, it’s the much larger choice available

Mark thanks - thats opened up an Aladins cave - will be on these sites all night.

One thing I've noticed is that some say VAT reclaimable. Does that mean that I pay VAT over in Germany and reclaim here, or do I not pay over there and pay UK VAT instead. Is the VAT % the same?

Did you have to go over a few times or is it that easy? presume go over once, find the car, arrange papaerwork and then come back to drive home!!

thanks again
