Re: starter problems

Tcylnes,
By "magic tap" do you mean giving the starter motor or solinod a "tap", if so this would seem to indicate that your solinod is sticking ( the "click" is it attempting to move, or moving a little but not enough to bridge the contacts for the heavy starter motor current ) this tap being enough to free it -- in the short term only -- you should be able to strip the solinod down, clean it up, lubricate and reassemble, assuming the electrical contacts are not to badly burned away -- and the longer you leave it, the more they will burn --, low tech , just time consuming.

Re: starter problems

I could really do with some untechnical step-by-step advice on the very same issue, as I think my G has the same starting problem. This cold weather isn't helping either and I do need to rely on the car. Can someone please talk me through exactly where I should look and what I should do.

Thanks,
