Fitting a Webasto parking heater - anyone done it?

My G400CDi SWB has the oem Merc diesel pre-heater with remote control built in. My new G400 LWB doesn't.

I've established that the Merc part is the Webasto unit, has anyone ever fitted one after market? The local Webasto dealers reckoned there might not be room in the engine bay - I pointed out that my other one has a unit fitted!

I've tried two Merc dealers but they haven't got a clue what the part number is - any advice would be much appreciated :)

Is there anyone up north who understands G's? I use HL Gorner in Preston for servicing - they're the Brabus dealers up here and have always given me excellent service - but they're not that experienced with G's.

For what it is worth, MyLWB 460 Diesel has a remote controlled Webasto unit installed. It was aftermarket and it easily fits in the engine bay.

Cant help with part numbers etc, but thought you'd like to know.

If you wish, can take a few snaps of the install.

Cheers

You have it extremely easy: given that your LWB and your SWB Gs are virtually equal -bar for the longer chassis and bodywork and the two additional rear dors in the LWB- I would simply go to my MB garage with the VIN of the SWB on hand. On inputting the VIN on the EPC he MUST be able to give you all the parts you require to order the parts. If not, change your garage: if they can't oblige with something some simple they must be fired on the spot.

Urm, tried that - with both Merc dealers and they can't see an available part for the heater :(

The problem isn't helped by UK Merc dealers having never (most of them) ever seen a G, and I believe the UK Merc parts system doesn't list G parts - my next thought is to try a Merc dealer in the Netherlands or Germany!

They are nothing but a bunch of idiots! -and yet they believe they stand on the moral ground to charge you 120 pounds plus VAT an hour in labour rate!

They must have the complete EPC -Electronic Parts Catalogue. The same one as every Mercedes Garage in the whole wide world! The same one I have at home (pitty that I work 260 Kms away from that and I am only there for the weekends)

PM me the VIN of both Gs and I'll get the part numbers for you.
