It was only on the initial selection of the gear Fowd or rev!
Any comments, please as I need to back t the guy asap wether I will purchase.

Re: Auto Gearbox

Not too sure that this will help but my auto makes a sort of whirring noise in neutral which disappears in drive. Still there after flushing and changing the fluid. But it does dives ok. It might be worthwhile asking an auto transmission mechanic what the likely causes could be. One of the first signs of an elderly MB auto going bad is a delay in going from drive to reverse – it gets slower and slower and finally fails to work altogether. Slipping when changing is another.

Check that the fluid level is correct – at normal operating temperature on level ground – engine running should be within the marks – on a cold engine – it’s at the lower mark.

Obviously if the transmission is on its way out the value of the truck is severely reduced – you could negotiate a significant discount for repair or ask for it to be cured.

It’s always a good idea on a vehicle with an unknown service record to change the fluid, drive it for a while and then change the fluid again as well as the filter, to clean up the internals and remove any crud.
Sorry cant be of more help.

Also since vacuum is used to control the early MB transmissions, leaks can cause a lot of problems – check the pipes and connections.
