http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H7-100W-XENON-HYPERWHITE-BULBS-C-E-S-CI-G-ML-CLASS...

Jumped out of the wifes Audi A3 and then into my G last night and really noticed how "yellow" and dull the lights are on my G.

Re: Headlamp bulbs

I have the same i purchased mine from halfords though. They have a small amount of xenon gas which gives them a whiter light. some times the cheapones are just a painted bulb so be carefull. You must replace both lamps you are no allowed to change just one back to standard halogenthey certainly are brighter although You wont get the audi power as i presume these are the High Intensity Discharge headlamps
High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps provide a brighter, whiter light for increased forward visibility. They produce about 2.5 times as much light as conventional halogen bulbs and have a distinct, bluish-white appearance to oncoming vehicles. Also, they are more durable than filament bulbs and require 37 percent less power to operate.

In contrast to standard sealed-beam or halogen lamps, HID headlamps use electrical energy to excite a metal halide. A quartz glass capsule filled with xenon gas receives a momentary high-voltage charge from an igniter, causing an arc between the two electrodes to light, then stabilize. The high output and small size of HID lamps allow them to be easily turned in active headlight systems to illuminate around corners.

Re: Headlamp bulbs

Only a year ago it was almost impossible to retro fit these units because of the high power required and the amount of heat they produced but I found this companyin the US:
http://www.xtralights.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=13
They do a high AND low beam one too for another $140
Not sure how good they are as from what I was reading a year or so ago the article said it would not be practicle to change a whole cars lighting system and power voltage and charging system to accomodate retrospectively.
HID needs a huge amount of flash power to get the lights to come on immediatly and not just gradually warm up to full power.
I am sure someone else will be more clued up than I BUT just make sure they are not "HID LOOK!!"
My bulbs I bought work really well are alot brighter and whiter and have a blue tint from in front I also have them in 100W driving lamps!!

Re: Headlamp bulbs

Just one word of warning: 100 watt headlamp bulbs are not legal for on road use in the UK. Additionally if you use over powered headlamp bulbs protect your switches with a relay as the extra amps could burn out your very expensive Mercedes switches. Other downsides could be damage caused to the lamps themselves from extra heat; discoloured reflectors, melted pugs and cracked lenses.
The fog lamp circuit is protected by a relay as standard.

pause - edit......

I should have added - Just for information - not a critique.
