Re: steering-wheel.

As far as i can recall most MB steering wheels fit especially w123 and w126 types some of the newer obviously have the airbag facility so tend to be bulkier also be careful of the dia/shape as it may bring your fingers too close to binnacle

Re: steering-wheel.

If you want to fit the steering wheel from a contemporary Mercedes, one from a W201 (190 E), W124 (E class) or W140 (S Class) will fit.

I personally like the airbag-style (without the airbag) one, of which I have fitted one from a 190 E to my G.

Re: steering-wheel.

i fitted a momo from 190 cossie to my 463 but be cautious as the difference in diameter means you cant see the top of the speedo or indicator arrows on dash looks nice though

Re: steering-wheel.

Hi All,

I reactivated this tread rather than create a new one.

Basically, I am looking for a leather steering wheel (mercedes of course) non airbag model if possible for my '91 463 circa 380/ 400mm dia.

I have looked on ebay and rang around a few big breakers over here (southern Ireland) but to no avail on any count. The ones on ebay germany tend to be specialised to models and high value items.

Any help on this subject would be much appreciated. I can organise a courier if something comes up.

Thanks in advance for any and all help offered.

Regards,

Mike

Re: steering-wheel.

Well I had a good weekend. I got a leather rimmed steering wheel non airbag from a '92 (w201) 190 merc. this is the same diameter as my own so no problems with visability and as it is suitably old also looks the part and not out of place. Nothing like the feel of leather between the fingers.
that was one problem sorted.

Next I have a drivers seat that I considered strained and leaning towards the centre of the vehicle. So much so that you would have a stiff back after a journey from trying to keep up right.
I measured the seat in the aforementioned vehicle and everything looked the same and when you sat in it all was perfect, so I bought it also.
Brought it home to start stripping both as the cloth on mine was to be reused.
Discoveries, both main frames are the same, nearly. The 463 frame has welded side supports on both sides. The attachment holes for the seat to the base are identical and the seat comes apart in the same way, but you have to use the 463 padding otherwise the fabric attachment holes don't match up. the 190 wire frame is 10mm longer than the 463 one but that does not matter as the thing will still go back together properly.
After putting it all back in place and bolting everyting together, I still feel like its still leaning to the same side ,maybe its just me. Has anyone else come up against this ?
Also took the drop down seat arm which will fit the passenger seat nicely, and in time I might even be able to find some material in the same grey as my 463and be able to cover it.
Your comments on the above would I'm sure be interesting and might even be helpful to others.

Regards,

Mike

Re: steering-wheel.

Interesting info about the seat.

I found in most early 463s that I had looked at the driver seats seemed somewhat twisted to the left and that you would notice it on a long drive or even if you look at the seats from the cargo area.

Never looked into a solution or cause though.

Re: steering-wheel.

I always thought it odd I could not see the Indicator light passed the wheel rim, what a design flaw I thought! Checked and the Previous owner swopped the origional out as a Dog ate it  It does give me a problem as I'm deaf in the left ear and usually have the window open (got to preserve that fan motor!) and can't hear the clicking....yes I admit on occasions I'm the prat indicating right for miles!! My plan was and I think still is to put a repeater light in the space above the trailer light I have all the bits and spare indicator cover.
I learn something everyday on this Forum :D :D
