Now that the rains have arrived ....I notice that there is water leaking into passenger and to a less extent driver footwell. It's a left-hand drive 1990 463 300gd with no sunroof..if there is such a thing on a G. The air vent on bonnet seems most likely source. Any ideas welcome. It doesn't seem like a long standing problem as there is no sign of sustained water damage in footwells. That may be down to the difference in Swiss and Irish rain!

Re: Leak

It will be doing NCT in two weeks. I'll let you know how it goes..if I don't turn it over between now and then, see post in wheels/susp.!
Got a small crack in windscreen now aswell..stone chip from a truck. May have to be replaced to pass NCT. If there is an Irish G-meet sometime let me know.
Would like to learn how to properly use the off road features.
All the best

Re: Leak

lift bonnet and lay it on windscreen. Look into air intake and push your finger down the left hand side and you will see the minge valve, just push your finger into the minge  and clear out any foreign body. with your leaves problem sounds like the valve is blocked. common problem, Also try lifting the plastic covers on the wiper spindles and pack them with vasaline. Push them back on. This lubricates the spndles and prevents water ingrese.

Re: Leak

i got a thought
my left hand drive g500 passenger side had some water in foot well and my synopsis was the rubber seal at the bottom left hand side of door bellow the door handle had worked itself loose from body structure thus letting water in when heavy rain is falling. Resolved with new instalation of rubber seal solving problem, youll notice the water works its way round to foot well through carpet and under sill trim easily missed when checking for leak , its a thought hope its of some help. Re: Leak

Thanks ,I'll check the door seals. Virtually no debris in the bonnet accessed air vent, though this proved tricky as unlike my old W124 I had, this has a gas strut propped bonnet which doesn't allow bonnet to be raised fully back on windscreen. So, blindly feeling around for 'the minge' ( notice I'm avoiding the temptation to make inappropriate jokes at this point) I found it to be fairly dry and other than light dust - clean. There is a crack in the plastic cover on the drivers(lhd) side wiper spindle thing. Its hard black plastic with little room for lifting with wipers in place but I twirled it around and vasalined it as PP suggested. Maybe that crack is the culprit.
Pouring again tonight so lets see how the newspapers under footwell mats are doing tomorrow.
