I have an 84 300gd with an STT tubo, and am wondering if anyone has played around with an intercooler setup for this or the early factory turbos - there's not much room in the engine bay and would be really interested to see where others had fitted the core.
P.S. last motor did well over 300,000 klm with the turbo fitted from new by the previous owner, not a bad run for a non-factory setup.
P.P.S. OT for this forum, but has anyone ever cured the propshaft vibration in these old girls - mines still got one, and my dad's G had one from new in '83 - we've both tried everything - balancing, custom built shafts etc all to no avail.

have you tried the engine mounts yet, these tend to rot away.

Intercooler for 460 turbo

My friend had a intercooler on a turbo ,it went like a rocket. Until it melted the injecter bit on the head. The intercooler was thin and in front of the rad . I have a 460 diesel and a 300D turbo which I am thing of fitting a intercooler or tranplanting the whole lot in to the G??

Thanks for the tip Peter - I think that could be my problem.
G-Man, if your 460 is RHD, the factory 300d turbo setup will foul the steering box. This is why we were never offered the GDT down under.
Cheers,
Red.

On the new 461s with the sprinter engine they use a air to water intercooler which fits neatly on the rhs of the engine bay. The rad is small and fits infront of the engine rad. all v neat.
