2nd gear stick????????????
I have a '98 LHD G500. To familarise myself with the controls I ordered a English manual which appears to be for the newer 463 models. Can anyone tell me what the 'G-N-S' means on the 4x4 gear stick?
Currently it's in 'S', is this the best setting for general road use? Is there a specific procedure for changing it without buggering it up - which I seem to have an exquisitely natural talent for!!! :D
Thanks for your responses in advance.

i think G stands for "Gelaende" (cross-country? where the name of the G comes from), and S stands for "Strasse" or street driving. The shift in ratio is quite steep, and the method i follow to change from/to is:
try to be on a level surface, and bring the speed of the car down to walking speed, but DON'T stop, put the auto tranny in N, then shift the 2nd gear lever in 2 steps, from N to the other position (G or S).
Once with a G300, we shifted into G on asphalt, and made the mistake of bringing it to a halt when shifting back to S, and it wouldn't engage. Had to push the car a bit and use some more force on the gearstick, and it was accompanied by the fearful crunching noise trannies sometimes make.
happy 4wheeling!
That is correct. G stands for Gelände or Cross-country and means Low 4wd and S stands for Strasse or street and means High 4wd.
N means Neutral
