final line up for sept 9,10,11
Good day one and all!
The family weekend is drawing near, and the schedule (if you can call it that) is pretty much as follows.
Fri Sept 9th. Arrive as & when, follow signs - yellow squares wiv a BIG g on & a merc logo in the middle. Arrows above, below one side or tuther, sure you have the idea, get set up for the weekend & relax.... ah.. thats better! beer is optional coz i aint supplying it. the barbeque is available to all, at any time, all weekend.
Sat Sept 10th. have negotiated a deal (yes it is shady before you ask) with the three counties showground who has given permision to use the 4x4 track that was built for the L.R.O. show. if you dont want to get dirty, there are plenty of other things to do like... watch clouds, count rain drops, weed our garden and numerous other activities in the area. Shelby, aged 7, will be demonstrating his quad antics, motor bike tricks (showing off) & putting his motor mouth to good use. suggest you bring ear plugs or a child to distract him! if you have a hungry pit bull, that will keep them both quiet after the screams have died down but better behaved pets are prefered. Sat night, there will be a barbeque! what a suprise! more beer & an entertainer or 2 (professional singists not karaoke for the masses) who will try to make you laugh, cry, reach for more beer & so on. Hopefully, this will go on for a while in so much as... if its dark when you retire, its to early!
Sun 11th, Mon 12th or when ever you wake, wander off at your liesure. not really to much of a prob if you stay on a day or 2 but the portaloo`s are off hire on monday however i am sure we can sort somethig out as far as sanitation goes.
So basicaly, get over here & enjoy yourselves. Bring your family, your kids quads,( then we can have races by flood light ) your friends, wives, other peoples wives (oops! that wasnt supposed to have been said! very naughty!) dont forget that pets are welcome so dont use that as an excuse not to come!

so far, we have...... The redoubtable howard green, mr watson (not dr but ian) mark blunden, roly, klaus, fred from brum, several others including an enquirer from scotland who is trying to convince his dear wife that it`s a good idea!
Am trying to get a local band in to help things along, have got portaloo type things organised for the campers, the water supply is now in, the signs are done ready to direct you all to WR8 0AA. look fer gert big yeller boards wiv a gert big letter g on & a merc star. just follow the arrows.
If this is a success, there will be another next year. if not, ah well, i tried!

As an interested but currently non G owner, this is just the sort of event I need to turn up at. It'll hopefully give me and the missus a chance to see some different models before we take the plunge and buy one.
Oh and as i'm flying over from Frankfurt I'll be putting my name down for the furthest traveller trophy. The wife however will be entering the shortest traveller as she's only got to come from Malvern.
Hopefully meet some of you pleasant G owners soon.

Well I missed a brilliant weekend so Howard tells me. Much better than expected, I was going but got called out on a trip to Dungeoness (weired place) and then to edinburgh.
So hats off to merv for organising a great weekend and I look forward to the next one as long as I dont get called out.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Merv and his team for the weekend. Very well organised and the people who did turn up made me feel very welcome, great BBQ and a band to go with it, what more could you ask for.
Would be nice to see a few more G's present next year.

sorry had enough of scotland in the last 3 weeks, I turned 40 last month and the first time I went was last month, had a mild heart attack on my way back, it did'nt agree with me. And they dont do full english breakfast, just full Scottish. :wink:
The week end was a great success. Thanks to Mervyn and his wife for the organisation, it was terriffic. As others have said, we had a bbq, band, lots of beer and food, a little rain not a problem. And most importantly , good companionship and plenty of laughter.

Must say I would be in favour of including AGM as part of a weekend event, and yes if in Aug it gives us overseas members more time to travel without taking children out of school Fri &/or Mon.

Damn good idea Marcus!! not a prob to have a bash & AGM at our place. Only reason this bash was in Sept was that we didnt want to interfere with anyones holidays. But enough notice is given, holidays can be sorted accordingly.
Have already started planning the 2006 weekend, all ideas welcome, but please remember that it is planned as a family do not just blokes wiv beards muttering under bonnets!
