as some of you know ive just purchased a 500 ge 1994, just having her for the journey home 800 miles iv learnt alot about g's but somthing i realy do need a hand with is particular noises (if they are normal or not)
The 5 litre when i left reading had a real grunt in her, beautifull but just home yesterday and went to work in her and i have this very loud whistling noice on acceleration mmmm not sure as at first just a little occasional wistle but now becoming more consistent on acceleration.
Not enjoying having to post such info afer 75 hours of owning her but thought consulting this site would be wise before contacting dealer, if need be.
Also originally i was expecting steel weels but ended up getting the usual style g merc alloy put on with two rather bald front tyres obviously from the vehicle they came of , maybe the tracking was off , mine is fine though.
Well my point is whilst driving her at high speed their is a little shuddering , i hope this is just the smaller wheel and the fact the tyres are bald, maybe someone could help me with that too.Sorry about the list but just wanna know to put my mind at rest.
There is also a little tapping noice from the cylinders under the bonnet, is this the tappets? and under the transmistion also.
And are brakes usually spongy on the g wagens as pads and discs look alright , something the seller was supposed to addres and is still willing to address along with any other problems i may have.
please get back in touch as the sooner i sort this the better it is for me in the long run with warrenty agreement and the agreement we have made......... cheers all

in short speak to Max, no doubt you paid good money for it and if its got bald tyres what the hell were you thinking driving it out the gate. Your not that naive are you. Its a long way to go to get warranty work done. specially with a 500 in it. The steel wheels would have been from a 460 and would have the wrong off set and in my opinion look daft and a little unstable considering the power. Not sure if the 500 has hydraulic tappets. I hope it has a hsisotry with it or it could be expensive repair

So what was the agreement ??

Vibration in the steering wheel if not wheel balance, Wheel bearings or swivel bearings would very likely be the steering damper – 5mins to change – 463 Gs are notorious for destroying them so much so that MB has kept making them bigger A463 463 00 32 is the latest one. 30,000 miles seems to be their life.

Tapping could be from the tappets – my EPC shows G500s as hydraulic in which case an oil change with a good synthetic oil should help. If you PM me your VIN I’ll run it through my WIS and send you a data card of what should be on your truck from the factory. Also will say if hydraulic tappets.
