blue smoke makes me panic!

when I decelerate from medium revs (i.e. 50mph+), my exhaust puffs out lots of blue smoke. No difference in feeling when driving. Is this bad? I thought maybe head gaskets or oil guide valves but isn't that normally black smoke? This big puff of blue is confusing and worrying...

please help.. thanks

Leakdown test

Blue smoke – oil – black smoke rich mixture – white smoke/steam – water.

The only real way to identify the problem is to have a leakdown test. That will distinguish between rings, guides, inlet or exhaust valves and gasket quite easily. You can even make one yourself http://www.xs11.com/tips/misc/misc3.shtml

30 mins or so should tell you one way or the other.
Good luck
