Hi, last night I managed to snap a 1/2 '' drive (snap on !!!!!) trying to remove the drain/filler plug on my 280 GE back axle. I only wanted to check the level !
Any ideas other than buying a new diff back plate complete with plug ?

Andy,
I am making this up as I go along, is the bung itself damaged?, have you tried hammering the face of it -- as squarely as possible -- to loosen it, or impact driver or good air gun, or heat the back plate -- after you have removed it ( or chill freeze the bung in situ - thank Bill Moss for that tip btw, a cheap/disposable kit is available from plumbers merchant @ £15.00 ish )
I had similar probs with sump bung ( and indeed sought advice on this forum ! ), it finally "gave" after repeated impact engineering but only then due to the application of a large stillson wrench.
Good luck,
Marcus

and if you do eventually get it off put copper ease on the bung prior to replacement.
