Re: Vibration info

Been out of the loop here for a while...lots of unread topics to read. I too have a vibration problem it occurs at 2000rpm and to a lesser degree at 4000rpm and it's getting worse. Read above link but still in the dark. It sounded like the exhaust at the eng. manifold end coming from just behind p/s bulkhead , this G is lhd. Exhaust checked seemed okay . My mechanic thought it might be the Gearbox mount and replaced it with a heavier w124 item but no change. It only happens on the move. Any ideas? I'm not so technically minded so bear with me on the poor descriptions.

Otherwise all is well 6 months into 1st G ownership..
apart from appetite for diesel esp. at a steady 120kmph, we have some new motorways over here! Does it drink more coming up to service time?

..and that p/s footwell leak, still there after replacing windscreen though not as bad.

I guess last two comments above should be in seperate categories..oops..apologies!

All the best

Re: Vibration info

If it is a vibration coming from the chassis parts (not engine) then the rpm not helps. In what speed you fill this vibrations?

Re: Vibration info

Thanks Gusti for getting back to me.
It seems more RPM related than speed. Going through the gears (auto box) it vibrates between 1800 and 2000rpm in each gear. Now this can be anything from 30 to 60kmph depending on incline etc. In top gear it happens between 55 and 60kmph. Again seems to come from behind the passenger side bulkhead (lhd)

all the best

Re: Vibration info

Dathi,
Have you replaced windscreen wiper spindles ?
a shocking amount of water finds its way in past knackered ones.
And it might be coming from the blower unit or the drain tubes from same.

Re: Vibration info

Thanks Marcus,

I checked the blower unit and that is fine so it probably is those spindles.
The fact that it has hardly rained for the past 6 weeks means that it hasn't been high on my priority list. The bad 'vibes' on the otherhand....

Re: Vibration info

Well well..vibration turns out to have been an exhaust problem, a fact made abundantly clear when pipe broke clear of silencer yesterday! I guess it was cracked at the top obscured from view. Curiously, it sounded ok when at idle.
