Got a leak around the neck of the tank where the filler hose connects with a large jubilee clip. Partly I think because the tank is lightly preasurised to assist the injection process, but mainly ecause the hose is perished anyway.

So the simple solution seems to be a new hose (alternative is only fill half full, but that means I can only go about 16 miles at a time :-)

Looks like there'll be good access by just removing the rear wheel - but before I hack off the old one, can anyone tell me if the replacement is as simple as it sounds? Or will it involve something awkward like dropping the tank out to get the hose over the tank and the filler assembly at the same time?

Regards,
Rob.

Do you have a 280 if so then you most likely have auxillary tanks fitted. If you have you need to get accces to the 2 screws that feed through the inner wheel arch. Open rear door, lift carpet on wheel arch and you will see 2 phillips head screw to enable you to drop aux tank. If you dont then just take wheel off and cut off clips. Remember dont use a grinder

Getting at the hose shouldnt be a problem, especially as it is so thin and flexible - hence it leaks in the first place.

The worst bit of it is that it costs about £50 from MB apparently.

Oh bugger ...

Got the new hose, in fact it was about £16, but that seemed cheap in comparison to the clips which were a tenner each so I suppose that's near enough to 50 quid when you add in the VAT and postage.

Anyway ... easy fix or so it seemed until I filled up again and guess what, petrol still pissing out but a different plave this time, seemed to be from the top of the tank. Investigated pricing for a new one, about 230. So out comes the old one and off it goes to the tank refurb shop in Droitwich, back again after a couple of days later looking like new. In it goes, fill her up and ... oh bugger.

This time it turns out to be the long-distance tanks above the arches on each side. Yes, both of them. Maybe it was them all along and the main tank was ok. I didn't know they put them on a 230 short. Anyway, now they're off to Droitwich as well, because even if the new main tank is a mere 230, the LD kit is an extra 500+ which reminds me a bit of the relative cost of the hose and the clips.

Upshot is that it's been off the road for nearly 3 weeks, which made a bit of a mess of plans to go over to the Treffen meeting in Germany 10 days ago.

Oddly enough this is my third G. You'd think I might have learnt something by now.[/img]
