I am about half way through the rear end tidy up and have some wiring issues. (Model as sig at bottom)

Inside the truck Kerbside rear corner. I have the wiper wires in one bundle and then a thick black which is power for the rear window but i also have a brown grd thin and another thick black. I have no idea what the second thick black is for ??? As far as i can tell its a perminent ground. Its the same gauge as the power for the rear window but the scrap of paper i have for a wiring dia. says the ground is brown ( no gauge given) Any ideas???

Hi Gib
you should have wiring for the heated rear window...  thick wire.... the wiper motor....  thick wire .... (any central locking)??  and the fog lamp not so thick wire plus the brown wires for ground  1984 would indicate that the loom is external at the hinge not in a spring loaded sheath as in later G's another wire runs inside for the load space light "door closed" switch

I had to rewire the loom on my 89 460 and noted what all the wires were on the old website. Not sure if the info is still available but you could try searching for posts by me. Can't remember what was what now though I'm afraid but there is definitely a permanent ground in there somewhere that connects at the top of the rear panel, hing side I think. There's also a fog light in there somewhere isn't there?

Re: Wire identification, help please

Thanks for the speedy responses.

Yes fog lamp ( black / yellow) and Grd in one bundle
4 wires for wiper motor Bundle 2.
Then the Power thick black for the rear demist . But this second thick black that is earthed has me stumped its a free wire but is the same as the wire used for the power and looks as if it should be there.

i will have search for the rebuild thread for the wires.

Any one else any ideas or confirmations???
