Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

vbh very very lovely !

vbh likey 'g' wagen 460 with 606 six speed - our work here is done, she described it as 'creamy'- just got back, as the cameraman wanted a spin also/ i have a feeling he will be looking for a lwb to have as a daily drive ,they all loved the 'g' and the noise it made from the camera chase car and its 'prescence' - good day to own a very special 'g' - many thanks to gwoa and spider for making it all happen . the fifth gear crew were really nice /professional/and took great care with the cars ,really nice to lend a vehicle to a car show that actually still hold true to real driving with real 'drivers' with  interesting cars and features - good for them.

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

the programme will be aired in august ,fifth gear they are testing the g 63 (jason plato driving) and the 460/lr defender 90/and the h2 hummer are the 'cheaper' options!

all in all it was a fun day watching my g getting lots of attention and getting really good feedback from all those that drove it /one of the camera men was a good wheel man and gave it some stick around the lanes where we filming at highish speeds and was blown away by the way a 1989 vehicle could be so sharp. - happy days very gratifying. all thanks to spider and the gwoa /the  film crew were really pleased we were able to provide a vehicle at such short notice and the gwoa will be first on the list should they need another 'g' in the future.

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

hi ned !    the fifth gear episode will be in august this year /the producer has promised spider and myself to give an exact date /time for its screening / i have thanked the producer for the fun day i had /i did not take any fee or reward for the use of my vehicle as it was a great laugh and  a welcome break / shame the g 63 that jason plato was driving was scheduled for another day but the vehicles my 460 606 was being compared with was a 300 tdi l/r 90 defender and a vomit inducing hummer h2 .

and yes vbh is a sweety / a mighty fine driver to boot- and she rides big bikes aswell /i reminded her of  doing a corporate for honda at the bike show at nec years ago and we spoke of the sp1 /sp2 honda's (ducati beaters in wsb 2 years running)

happy days! the sp1/2's are a rare bird very much like a  g wagen . the road in the picture is a famous climb from the the tour de france , i plan to do some of the mountain climbs /routes with the super g when it is done with the demount camper body as it good for -30 i am assured (it might be, but i am possibly not )

hope all is well in eire and on the farm  -mike

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

So Troops,

Get your Set top boxes, video players, recordable ipods ready.... VBH will be losing it, getting excited and simply raving about the G Wagen against some inferior American and Japanese models

Just got TX dates fully confirmed – Axel's G-Wagen will be in EP7 - 5th Gear, which will be broadcast on 28th October on Discovery Channel

Cheers!

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

Just watched EP6 with the G63.  Seemed odd (to an offroad enthusiast anyway) to use AMG sedans as their "cheap" options.  Looking forward to EP7.

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

hmm... i think they meant that a reasonable STANDARD G  WAGEN   can be bought for circa £8k /they made no mention of the bad boy under the bonnet /but vbh had a hoot giving it a spank! they knew it had a bit of a 'steroids problem' hence they did put the power output etc  on the screen.

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

right diesel jim,  you have been flirting  around with the idea of going  'gelandewagen' so what's it to be, 460 or 463 /swb /lwb ??? and more importantly have you actually had the pleasure and driven one yet? if so ,your impressions please..

perhaps this g may persuade you-  this is a 460 swb with orc suspension system /50 mm body lift /mach wheels /662a (290 diesel turbo with 605 a turbo and tuned pump) and a heavy duty 6 speed manual box / side exhaust /just being loaded on its way to the body shop for a full glass out paint job - this g is a factory black version so no cheesy different colours to be found under the carpets..

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

I've not driven one (yet).  Had landrovers all my life, since I was 15 when I bought my first series 2, currently have a 90 and 110, both Td5, both hand built by me.

To be honest, I can't see that a G would be any "worse" than a defender to drive or to fit into, so I'm not overly worried about that side of things.

Ideally I'd love a 461 professional (and dreaming, a .pur edition would fit the bill 110%) , but funds don't stretch that far yet, nor to a 463, so I'll probably end up with an older 460.

engine wise, I don't want an old knacker.... want something that will give the same level of performance as my current Td5's (funnily enough I've considered a Td5 engine fit into a G... would be interesting. the Td5 is very easy to fit even with all the electronics,,, the engine ECU wiring can be easily removed from the main wiring harness)

Think I also want a standard (ish) vehicle... I've had my fill of lifted-big wheeled-loud exhaust LR's, and much prefer to drive a standard (or slightly modified... as in, slightly bigger tyres/disreet rollcage/winch etc).

I've got to sell my current 90 first though to get some £££ to fund this project wink

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

interesting, my very good friend (another mike) is having me build him a swb g pickup for his 50th birthday it will have a 6 speed manual/  606a engine - he has driven series 2/3/90 defenders all his farming life and hates them (case of overdose ithink) he has driven some g's i have had and loves them hence his 'birthday present' he has bought all the bits and it is here being built / he found the g driving position to be ideal/and the driving dynamics in a different league to the solihull products/and then you have 100% mechanical locks on the axles.. his pickup will have a shortened hi cap body similar to the grey one that mark is building / i am building a 461 pur replica super g for myself which will powered by 605a 2.5 engine and will be 6 speed manual . 461's are rare(ish) -personally i would buy a 460 and spec it using factory parts to what you want /i would come and look at some to see what is possible /and yes you can have a drive in the vbh special!

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

461 pur - will the replica look like this ?

It is a Swiss civilian registered one but built to Swiss army specification. My dream G even if it does have wind up windows and used many of the parts found in my 24 year older 460. Spent a day in it on and offroad ...magic

The owner lives at 6000ft in the alps so really needs the car. The army can borrow it if needed at a time of crisis and in return the Government pay 50% of the cost of the new vehicle!!

Perhaps Mr Osbourne could do something for us in the autumn statement.

Re: Vehicle required for TV feature

it will be like that but , i do  not like the fog lamps /much prefer the hella round type ones/ my one is 3428mm wheel base with 605a power and six speed manual with a dropside body and demountable camper body for overlanding.
