Updated 2011 Welsh Run Weekend of the 3-4-5 June
Weekend of the 3-4-5 June.
Proposed plan
G-Wagen run to the Lleyn Peninsula, North Wales
Weekend of 3, 4 & 5 June 2011.
Camp site at Uwchmynydd
Arrive at campsite as from lunchtime friday onwards.
Evening BBQ please bring your own food although
there will be bangers, mash and beer supplied for
those who come early.
The plan is to spend the bank holiday weekend at this
site overlooking Bardsey Island. If you can find a more
picturesque site please let me know! I will be visiting
the campsite to fine tune arrangements in the next few
days. Meanwhile indications are that prices will be £10
per vehicle/tent per night. Breakfast, bacon and eggs,
available at the cafe.
Places to visit
We will be establishing the frequency and price of trips
to Bardsey Island where you can spend three of four
hours looking at the birds (Choughs, Oyster Catchers
and so on) for the rest of you please bring buckets and
spades and stuff for the beaches at the famous Porth
Or (Whistling Sands), Porth Iago, Porth Felen.
The area is full of natural beauty with wild orchids, rare
blue butterflies and completely unspoilt country side.
There are pubs for good food at Llanengan (The Sun
Inn) and Aberdaron, as well as Morfa Nefyn.
Walks along Hell’s Mouth are inspiring as is a visit to
Plas yn Rhiw. Plas yn Rhiw is an old country house run
by the National Trust overlooking the sea at Rhiw, with
magnificent gardens and owned by two sisters who left it
to the nation. The Bentley Driver’s Club and the Morris
Cowley Club used it as their headquarters in a visit to
the area two or three years ago; so what’s good enough
for them is certainly good enough for G-Wagens!
Those venturing to Bardsey Island can do so from
Fisherman’s Creek (Porth Meudwy) which is well
worth a visit even if you don’t go out on the twin
hulled catamaran - the journey to Bardsey is always
guaranteed a bit rough. A walk along the sand is
rewarded by a drink and a meal at the pub at Porth
Dinllaen (The Ty Coch) and a look at the lifeboat
station, near Morfa Nefyn.
Offroading
Offroading is being masterminded by a few of our
experts and details will be released on the friday night
(3rd June) but will probably take in the track up the
Mynydd Rhiw.
Points to note
Traffic will be the usual bank holiday traffic so go
for an early get-away on friday if you possibly can.
Bottlenecks are likely to be at The Cob at Porthmadog,
although the new road eases traffic flow to Pwhelli.
The route through on the A55 from Chester through
Llandudno via Caernarfon and Morfa Nefyn might
be a little easier and once again the new bypass has
speeded up traffic flow in the last two years.
To sum up, the weekend will be unlike any other and
there are at least a dozen other ‘porths’ which are all
totally unspoilt.
Just let me know by text or email if you can come so
I can give the campsite at Uwchmynydd an idea of
numbers. Richard Wells mobile: 07710 819200.
A final word - keep your tank topped up as petrol
stations are thin on the ground.
Ordanance Survey sheet 123 of the Lleyn Peninsula
will help you find your way to the campsite:
Ty-Newydd, Uwchmynydd, Aberdaron, Nr Pwllheli,
Gwynedd LL53 8BY.
Those wanting a B&B or to spend the weekend in a
hotel need only contact Pwhelli Tourist Information
Centre on 01758 613000 or Abersoch Tourist
Information Centre on 01758 712929.
Very good. Looking forward to it..
Will be a great weekend.
But this isn't a bank holiday weekend!
Its worse than a BH weekend in a way - the previous Monday 30th May is a BH and its also school half term week that week (may differ regionally, but doubt it). Hence the trip up(or sideways) might be fine, but coming back on Sunday 5th will be joining the crowds.
some of the obscure routes will be relatively traffic free
just have to come back on the monday then
Will be there, is there definitely going to be an off road route?
A few of web links for your perusal.

Lots of National Trust owned land in the area.

If you fancy some sailing they have dinghy’s, Laser Dart 16 Catamarans up to keel boats for hire. They do instruction too. You’ll have to book in advance though.

There are pub's and restaurants a plenty and some nightlife in Abersoch. Very popular (we avoid it like the plague in the summer but everyone to their own). Parking will be difficult in the day.

If you fancy wakeboarding or surfing these are the people. You’ll have to book. Weather dependant of course.

Only way to get to this pub is to walk. Worth it though.
Nearest Village with pubs.

Little to no chance of being able to book a table for food. Turn up and take your chances
As far as I am aware there is NO off roading, you’re in an AONB (a small one at that).
Maybe we’ll be there, we’ll see.
Russ
Thought i would ask too, is there any laning or off roading organised ???
Anyone here ???
i am now, but not for long
Not you Shaun, I meant any of this event organiser ... Still trying to find out if we are going off road as stated further up ...
Perhaps you could arrange for one of your contacts to contact one of their contacts.
Main contact was contacted earlier but no reponse as yet ... might try another contact...
Well if you contacted the contact I think, then the last time he organised some off road contact, we left to do another lane, and that contact was very unhappy contact, so maybe that's why he's uncontactable !
ahhh, the good old days, G's were G's, men were men, blah blah blah.
ahh the good old days indeed someone organises one thing , you as in you the so called clichy crew do something completely different, im just easily led

video here if anyones interested
LOL, very good.
Looks as if everyone had a fab time! Great weather and is that a black 55 AMG I could see in the line up?
Sorry I could not make this one - although back in work, just trying to clear some debts and the Spider Wagen is playing up - a B49 sensor - which is getting fixed ATM. under the mobilo life scheme MB run they should replay with a like for like, but they don;t do G's in the UK so currently flashing around in a nice S320, so some pay back there then!
Will endeavor to get out more over the coming months as debt is reduced and liquidity returns to normal!
Spider1V
Lucky for you the B52 sensor isn't playing up, That causes extreme wind up in the old Rock Lobster, increasing tension in the Love Shackle and premature failure of the CV joints. fnarr, fnarr.
the day your baby gave you a surprise
Not sure I'm with you on that one !
Looks like you all had a good time. My Sons at Bangor Uni so I'd have joined up but already was signed up for a Camping & Diving week at Salcombe (and a bit of off road). I'll be in North Wales in July, but Wife told me no time to off road!! So next time! Any routes on Anglesey I can get in while I'm up there?
cheers
