What do you do you do to envigorate a 420 mile road trip back from Plymouth to North Norfolk?

Give Axel a call to see what all the fuss is about and these Super G’s J

What a memorable experience bulleted below in no particular order of preference or importance:-

1.    OMG/WTF ….not the G’s but I have a sea view from 20 miles away!

2.    605/606/662 I only wanted to solve my vibration from a bad G purchase….another story!

3.    A leisurely drive to Marks emporium to G Central. Those Chippendales will never fit my 463!

4.    De Ja Vu moment as didn’t know that it was Mark I bought the Brabus Wheels from!

5.    Just realise my G has Brabus wheels, AMG Suspension, Cosworth Steering wheel and DFS seats….(white leather….another story of me a Pole and a Lithuanian!)

6.    Overwhelmed with the sheer enthusiasm for G’s and Unimogs etc….but I’ve got Military Arms as well…..

7.    The trip back…….100 mph on a country lane whilst a big six bellow spitfire flyby from 'The Tunnel of Love exhaust.(Xmas no1...2013....Simon has one on order!)

8.    I’m now stuttering and in awe of what I’ve just witnessed.

9.    Phone call to Mrs….sell the Dogs…sells the Cat….sell the Shares….I want the SsangYong 662 I’m not greedy…

10.  Matthew 14:22-33…..sorry Axel walks on water! (Thank God the Irish boys yell…)

Sorry Gordon I’m working in Preston soon and Blackpool isn’t too far away….your turn to impress

Lessons to be learnt for anyone/new member wishing to purchase also in no particular order:-

1.    Always consult a G Wagen members or site to get as much information on any G purchase.

2.    Don’t listen to any bullshit you receive from those cashing in on G popularity and consult GWOA for free advice.

3.    Ensure you join GWOA and pay your £25.

4.    It will be the best score and a quarter you will ever spend (I can do cockerneeee as well)

5.    Sorry Spider1V but I’ve now had two petrol G’s but a diesel spitfire will win the Battle of Britain!

6.    Failing all above…for everything else there’s MasterCard J

Thanks to Rakesh, Gordon, Gav, Roly et al for all the advice.

Tim (Norfolk 66)

Ps. BTW just been on www.regtransfers and got MBZ605, MBZ606 and MBZ662 for £69.00 each….conversion paid for:-)

Sean,

As I shut my eyes this morning after getting in my 2011 E Class 250D and drove off for another days hard labour my mind played tricks on me and I could have still been driving in the floating carpet :-) It was only when I shut the door and didn't get the assured clunk that I realised I was once a mere mortal again...

Yesteray now tops my three best moments in 2013 after having diner personally cooked by Deliah Smith which is now 3rd and meeting One Direction on a garage forecourt in Basildon :-)

Yea, though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death, I shall fear no evil...................as I drive a V8! and I keep good company - the mystic white you referred to is a G500 and it burns the 'pure' stuff and not some bi product making it 'pure'! cool

Joking apart - many thanks for posting up your experience and warning about some of the jokers around ready to take good money for poor workmanship. That's what the GWOA is here for! Let us know when your going opp north, might be a good time to plan an informal meet with some of the northern members - subject to the evil northern rep planning something.wink

Now back to the matter in hand - 6 cylinders good, V8 Cylinders better cheeky and as the 'King' once said..' Ambition is a dream with a V8' -Elvis Presley. and 'If God intended us to walk, he would not have given us the V8' - annon

Re: A truly Holy experience....God lives in Somerset

Spider,

I must admit your love of petrol is always something that brings a smile to my face as does the thought of all the V8 owners filling up twice a dayJ

However, my next big debate is with the Mrs! As the deal was if I’m having a new engine she’s having a new cooking range and the choices simply are :-

·         AGA

·         Rayburn

·         Esse

But the real dilemma is the fuel type what with all the rising prices:-

·         Wood logs (my choice)

·         Coal

·         Anthracite

·         Oil

·         Gas

·         LPG

Any then even more choice :-

·         No back boilers

·         2-6 rads

·         6-12 rads

·         Dundersley distributor etc..  etc…

My mind is such a mess. ….

When I mentioned this to Mike yesterday he told me that there was only one person who would know the answer on this and that was the G500 guru who makes exceedingly good fairy cakes with that Mr Kippling being you J

What would you advise?

Norfolk Carrott Cruncher…

Ps. at 495kg would a short wheelbase 463 take the weight of a Cream Two Oven Aga in the boot?

Re: A truly Holy experience....God lives in Somerset

Does Spider have an Esse/Rayburn/Aga ? Allways struck me as far too high tech for such ancient pieces of equipement.

I drive a 2 oven oil fired (28 second kerocene) 1993 AGA.Dark blue with black top.

Fuel consumption is 63 liters a week (.60p x 63 = £38) cooks, heats water, and keeps kitchen warm. I think Rayburn / Esse are more versitile.

Cost of a new one is about the same as a very good 460 G but like a G they last forever.

As for wood power like diesel getting very expensive unless you have your own forest / oil well.

Raybrun. Solid fuel. Back boiler. Feel smug wnen neighbours have no cooking/heating during power cuts.

May be slightly biased though....

Re: A truly Holy experience....God lives in Somerset

Dear Norfolk Carrot Cruncher,

Many thanks for your interesting post. Ahhh the dilemma of which 'original' should one use.... AGA/Rayburn or others.... Hmmm very good question and one I am about to blow the minds of a few members here...

First off AGA and RB are one and the same. My preference is for either one of these, as they are a joy to cook on, brill for drying clothes and if done correctly fantastic for heating ones house, Though the upfront cost is rather high, I would consider looking at the heating side of things as well (rads, hotwater etc). Did you know that you can call AGA/RB and have a chat with them, as if you moving to renewable fuels there is a (all be it small) government  grant available for the installation.

As for fuel, the most economical would be the wood burning type. Would stay away from all the other types as they will all go up in price, and like some of my friends found, in one case it was cheaper to rip out his full fuel system as the price of oil has rocketed and go gas central heating as its much cheaper, however with the ruskies playing up, and our gas coming from Russia..... hmmmm. The advantages of wood is that you can get some cheep wood (free in fact - but more later). It is messy and a bit of a fag having to keep it fueled, especially if you go away for a week or two. Its also best to have some dry places to store the wood and dry it out and 'season' it before use. The reason is that if you put fresh wood in, the sap can build up over time in the flu and cause a fire or at the very least a blockage. It also can get rather pungent and smokey, though it does add a certain nice 'out doorsy' smell to ones abode.

Back to the wood issue - I have a few friends who have various RB/AGA's and those burning fossil fuels have the ease of use, cleanliness etc, but with the price hikes it is now a major factor in their budget and some are considering a 'conversion' to wood - which is very expensive - but thats how I found out about the grant. The fact is two of my friends have the wood versions, one just as the cooker, the other one has a full system including Hot water and rads. Both him and his family love it and will swear by it, mind you they do have slave labor (children) that keep the thing going. With the rads - make sure you get the individual thermostat controlled ones and FOR GOODNESS SAKE  make sure your hot water tank is big enough..... When all are going its can case the system to cool down quite quickly and you end up feeding the flames quite a lot to begin with but easier if you have some slave labor. wink

Finally the wood supply - you have many options:

1. Get friendly with the tree surgeons around your area - they usually want to get rid of all sorts
2. If you a handy man - when the wind blows, get out there and offer to clear away stuff as that's  free fuel.
3. Stay away from sappy young trees - unless you can season them.

Re the last bit - would check with your springs as see if they can take the weight. I think from memory the lesser engined, smelly diesel powered, carcinogenic vehicles are rates up to about 750KG, but the Clean burning V8 petrol have springs up to about 980KG - and from experience even if you have it in the back one hardly notices the extra weight. (sniff). Though before you set out and start I would take professional advice as I can only base this on my personal experience and what I have found.

I hope this helps?

Spider1V
p.s make sure before you take the aga, that it is drained and cleaned, last thing you want is any residue or liquid all over your 463

pp.s Anyone else requires help - as the Guru is in cool

Re: A truly Holy experience....God lives in Somerset

Spider1V,

I know that you are just so pleased that I have stimulated the minds of some like minded G Wagen owners and opened the flood gates of others into appreciating all the solid fuel 'Aga Porn' that is now readily  available in the winter editions of Country Life etc..

Thanks to yours, Audiominx and Panzers reply on the 'Range Debate'..... as Uncle Bryn said in the great Gavin and Stacey episode.......

'Sod it, I'm going for the Gnocchi'....

The Gnocchi in this case being a Two Oven Wood Burning Aga.....just need to decide on the color now :-)

Good light hearted G instigated banter.....beats boring work meetings :-)

Regards

Tim

Re: A truly Holy experience....God lives in Somerset

Gordon,

I know I've posted some interesting stuff today but Aga's are meant to get red hot and not 606 turbos I thought.

Nevertheless towing that amount of weight across the moors with your foot down cant be knocked,. However, at a first glance and after 6 large savignions and no glasses it did look like your were towing a scaled down replica of the blackpool tower :-)

I should be in Preston on the 16th December and would love to catch up with you this time and see all your great work. Perhaps in the evening a beer and a trip to the Blackpool panto! They must have someone good topping the bill this year?

Will and other Panto Dames fancy a Northern GWOA Pre-Xmas beer?

Norfolk Dumpling....yes the one with white leather interior and a vibrating monster!

Re: A truly Holy experience....God lives in Somerset

yes gordon, its going to goran dieselmeken. i have known him a few years and he really has made a good name for himself.....

i am just getting the pump for my 79G rebuilt using the original 606a 6mm elements. he going to max out the pump 100% for than standard and adding an external idiot proof screw so you can turn the amount of fuel being pumped up or down to your personal request. max'd out it will give about 250 ps syas goran !

the reason i am sending it to goran is because the bosch pump guy  screwed  up the fuel adjuster  last week !!! they are uselss here to say the least...once upon a time it was cheap here and you could find a half decent mecahnic. not anymore. prices are high, workmanship sucks !

if i was in the uk, axel [mike] would be the ONLY guy i would give my G's to. infact i spoke to him about the pump rebuild a while back, but sending it to the uk etc was working out much more expensive. goran is also adding an ALDA to the pump too, so no black smoke....

spider will be a lonely man at the petrol pumps at this rate....=D

rgds to all.
