Hello all,
Can anyone tell me which is the fill level on this transfer. Its a 1991 300GE. the first pic is the back of the transfer and the second the front. The hole that is at the front is the higher level, and if anyone knows the reason for the two level holes?
Cheers.

Re: transfer fill hole

Just checked the 300GD Operating Instructions Manual I had a copy of - doesn't look like your one.
Perhaps the lower one is for an oil filler pipe connection, with dip stick?  But I have no idea so wait for the experts!

Please see the following for later 463s, sourced from official training material. I did the task a few years back but can't remember which...

Re: transfer fill hole

Your fill hole is at the front side of the t/box which is the higher of two levels you have shown.

I am not fully sure, but I can only assume that the rear hole is for a partial oil drain in order to renew  prop.shaft oil seal if necessary.  With the oil partially drained, it avoids dripping of oil to interfere the seal renewal.  But then, on the other hand I can not see the designers' ever considering or affording such courtesy for mechanics.

Cheers,
