I got around to changing the starter motor on Friday (old one plastic back broke off while trying to unscrew the bolt).

When I took a close look at the cable from battery to starter, I noticed that there is a mystery additional wire that has been routed down and presumably should (because right now it is broken off) terminate along with the 35mm black (battery>starter) and 4mm Red (to 3 way terminal block).

The question is what is this cable doing there?

It doesn't AFAICS appear on the 300GD wiring diagram which shows the 35mm black and 4mm Red (attached).

I know that these kinds of questions are horribly difficult to answer without being there to trace things through, justhought it was worth asking incase anyone recognised it as a common mod?

Hi
I suspect that it was part of an immobiliser circuit  or a power feed for something
tidier down there than on the positive battery terminal........

Thanks for reminding me on that - last year I had to replace the terminal block and I think you suggested that there was some extraneous wiring, now I understand what you meant. I'll have to trace it through I think.
