Got everything ready for the MOT tomorrow AM.. absolutely everything in tip-top shape following December's upgrade of powersteering/ oil lines, radiator and oil cooler anmong others... even the cracked front number plate replaced.

I was pretty confident for my run through.. The only thing that I knew was not working was the rear foglamp which I was 99.99% sure was down to  one of the weatherpack connectors that I replaced everything with a couple of months back.

I was wrong..

Traced to that wretched multi-way light switch (A0005453704) which will delay things while I get MB to order one in :-(

Does anyone know if these commonly fail?

Re: Thwarted!

Its not common but not unheard of either. Old mechanical switch...just worn out over the many years!
Same type of switch was fitted to many of the older mercs, I need to change the one on the r129 sl, same type of switch with bulb failure warning, switch works, all circuits light up but bulb failure shows, internal resistance/short...not repairabe.

Good luck with the MOT, make sure you give it some good throttle to clear out the injection nozzles!

Re: Thwarted!

Thanks for the offer - new is expensive (£70), but I need one ASAP and truthfully in the context of everything else spent on the vehicle this doesn't stand out as extravagent. Its just anotehr thing that will be good for the next 30 years!

Its irritating because it is literally just the rear fog light that has failed  -fronts work fine as does everything else - bridge the connector to the power in on the switch and the lamp works fine, so it has to be something internally that has failed.
