Hi All,

having issues with the sunroof switch, everything else on the panel is working and when the switch is by passed the sun roof opens and closes with no problems.

Any ideas? Do we need to change the whole unit or is it possible to just buy the sunroof switch?

Thanks

Yvonne

Re: sun roof switch

I cannot quite remember but some models used to come integrated switch, others had a switch as a separate unit for which replacing the switch was a cheaper proposition.

A photo of your switch could help.  Switches do carbonise internally but it is a fiddley job to undertake. Given you may have to buy one anyway so there would be no loss in attempting to strip and clean.

Re: sun roof switch

Thank you for the upload, there is a choice of some four dome lights. One has an emergency phone button, the second has additionally,  the sunroof switch attached so it cannot be those two. Yours is a choice of two but on the EPC they are both described as front lights.

Chassis number is the only way to identify the correct one. These type of lights were fitted to the latter W463s'. I have not pulled one off these before but my feeling is that the switch is integrated and may not able to be removed to work on. Gav can give a better idea after you have furnished him with a chassis number. I dare say it will be expensive; you may opt to just get a singular sunroof switch and wire this to mount by your current dome or do ask Gav if this switch is fitted to any saloon models in which case looking for one from a salvage would be much cheaper.

After Gav has given you the part number, if you could pass that onto me unless it is up on the forum; I can check M/Benz recycling centre for you to see if they have one for sale. PS, I have not found their recycling centres of much use so far.

Re: sun roof switch

Hi

The Sunroof Switch is as the dealer stated only available in the Full Interior Light Assembly

A463 820 03 01 7D43 @ £348 + vat Special Order from MB Germany

As you can see the part is G specific although it is common to a lot of late 463's if  they have a Sunroof

I will keep digging and also PM you

Looks like you can get the Sun Roof Switch seperately?!?

Shown on a completely different picture to the Interior Lamp

I would even say that the Lamp does not come with the Switch if you order it...

Sun Roof switch is A124 820 68 10 and £28.20 + vat MBUK have 1 in stock

and is shown on EPC Group 82 Picture 22 of 34 Item 90

It also fits most of these....

463 series G Wagen

126 series S Class

201 series 190

124 series E Class

Apologies for the first attempt, thats what you get if you try working parts out will laid in a sleeping bag in a tent....

Re: sun roof switch

Sorry to my foot in it, I think Steve's ebay photo shows this to be the wrong switch.

Looking at Yvonne's first photo of the lamp unit, look carefully, the switch installed in the lamp has no rectangular body to it, it seems integral.

With the full part number I'll have another go at the re-cyling centre.

Re: sun roof switch

Not sure on this one...

The part number on the lamp is....

A203 820 03 01 7D43 This does not exist either in Germany or on the EPC...

Just because they both start A203 don't assume they are the same....

The part numbers on the EPC are....

A203 820 10 01 7D43 £215+VAT and

A463 820 03 01 7D42 £348+VAT

They both come up to chassis number when Yvonne's is punched in.

The former has no SA (Special Build) codes against it...

The latter has a SA code that state for use with Sun Roof.

I would think from this info that the former is the plain non Sun Roof type Interior Lamp and if you look on the EPC for the 203 series C Class, that Lamp A203 820 10 01 7D43 is in fact the Non Sun Roof type Lamp used om these cars.

The latter is the Sun Roof type interior lamp in my opinion, i do however agree that the picture does not appear to show a Sun Roof Switch that is replaceable...so that maybe rules out the Switch A124 820 68 10 as the type that fits the earlier 463 models like the 300GE and 300GD from the early 90's and utilise the A124 820 23 01 type Interior Lamp, and that is simply an EPC error.

I think Yvonne you are stuck with the £348 Lamp, it would also appear that the Lamp in infact a small control module in itself.

I think i would be carfully taken the back off and having a look inside and blowing it out with compressed air and then a sparing aplication of contact cleaner to the Sun Roof switch part...

Cheers
