Hi Guys,

Would anyone happen to know if the steering wheel ref A219 460 16 03 9E37 will fit a K Reg 463?

Regards

Neil

Re: Steering Wheel

Neil,

I can not say if this steering wheel could fit but your considerations are:

1) Have air bag or not?

2) The steering center nut could be either a nut or a tapered screw with an allen key head. An allen key head has a better chance of fitting as the steering wheel would have a chamfer to accommodate the tapered screw. PROVIDED the steering column splines are the same and the tapper angle on the column to be the same.

3) The ring gear mates up to the ring gear on the steering wheel

4) The steering wheel diameter is similar; if you go for a smaller diameter steering wheel, this will construe the speedo readings - very irritating and secondly it will increase the steering turning effort.

Trail and error is the alternative answer.

Re: Steering Wheel

Hi Freddie

i just bought one on eBay Deutschland this week. Part A46046100003 for my 91 W463. It hasn't arrived yet but if you wait a week I could let you know if it fits ???

I have no air bag on existing and the one on order is also without air bag. This is important. If you don't have airbags in existing you 'should' install replacement also without airbag or you will confuse your MOT / NCT test man.

Re: Steering Wheel

Hi

replaced out the old steering wheel no problem. Non Air Bag version. 1991 W463.

make sure wheels are straight ahead and steering lock NOT engaged.

1. Pull off wheel cover with your hands. Comes off fairly easy.

2. Turn key to ensure that steering lock is not engaged (NB)

3. Bolt is 27mm. You will need extension piece on socket to reach.

4. Turn counter clock wise. It is very tight. Do not use steering lock as anchor.

5. Remove bolt and locking washer. Pull wheel forward off spline.

6. Place new wheel onto spline.

7. Insert lock washer and part thread nut. Check wheel is straight.

8. Tighten up bolt. Check no movement on wheel. Pull sharply. Wheel nut should be torqued.

9. Connect horn wire cable.

10. Clip back on wheel cover.

Re: Steering Wheel

Hi all , NEVER try to loosen steering wheel from spline unless you leave fixing nut loose otherwise if it comes off spline whilst trying to free it then it may hit you in the face and could be a visit to hospital and a few painkillers ! only remove fixing nut when wheel loose ,.
