Hi all,

I picked up a swb 280ge on Monday, it was mentioned in a thread a week or two ago. The 1989 black one on e-bay which does actually happen to be factory black with a near mint interior! Very pleased with my purchase, and having a couple of Defenders I'm amazed at the build quality of these things!

I decided to change the plugs this afternoon and the thread came out of the head with one of the plugs.... Is there any special knack to repairing these or just the usual helicoil method?!  Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Rob

You could fit another heli-coil but in my opinion you would get a better off fitting in a "Time-sert". It is principally like a heli-coil but supported with a body that is internally and externally threaded.

Thanks Pistonhead,

It hadn't been helicoiled previously so I just went with that! Bit awkward to get to being the 5th cylinder but it went in okay. I'm thinking of doing a full engine re-build this winter so It should last okay till then...

 Thanks again

Phew! It should last, just don't overtighten.
