South West Region Strata Florida Drive June 22nd 2014
Hi Kevin,
I'll be very interested in this! I think we should go even if it's just the two of us.
Cheers
Paul
Strata is a damn fine byway to drive; I've done it several times in various LR's of mine.
Alas my 460 won't be on the road by then I don't think.
If I can off load the kids one someone for the weekend I will be up for it. Where does is start and finish?? Nearest towns..
Hi Kevin, is there any good hotels close by? I was thinking of bringing the good lady and make a weekend of it.
Nearest village to the N end of Strata is Pontrhydfendigaid
North end of the byway is at SN 74497 65698
Devils Bridge is probably the closest big town. I know some of my friends have stayed there in a hotel before when in that area.

Devils Bridge is tiny barely a village and its big Hotel was featured in Hinterland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinterland_(TV_series) and was scary in a creepy sort of way
Metropole is fully booked, so we are in the Conrah, I hope it's not too far away!
Hi Kevin,
Count Julie and I in on this one please.
Best regards,
Alex.
any camp sites near by to the start?
Just for info, if anyone is looking for somewhere to stay for this trip there's the Talbot Inn in Tregaron, just checked online and they have rooms available for that weekend (£110 for a double). I saw it being renovated a couple of years ago, it's now very nice with good beer and apparently the food's pretty good as well. It's also much closer to Pontrhydfendigaid than anywhere else.
I know the area pretty well having worked around there for a bit. I also had one of my first underage drinking sessions in the Talbot.. Back then it really had sawdust on the floor..
Count me in, if places still available.
I drive a Landcruiser 100 4.2 TD on a daily basis now, but might get the 23-year-old G on the road for this.
Thanks,
Rick.
Kevin.
There is an outside chance I could make this run. Do you still have spaces?
Eddie.
Looks like serious fun!
Kevin. Regret I will not make it this time. Neither of my W460 OM602A's are ready and fit for purpose unfortunately. This is a trip I very much want to do in the future. I will contact you later in the summer to see if you want to have a second crack at it. I hope you get the numbers this time and that a great day is had by all. I am sure it will be a fantastic day out. Eddie.
Gordon - surely your not left out for a second time this year !!!.
Yes numbers are good so looking forward to a great day out.
Regards
Kevin
Hope you all have a great weekend
Gutted!
Put a new fuel filter on truck and went for a spin.Came to brake for a roundabout......no brakes!
Managed to pull hand brake on in time to avoid hitting cars.
A recent pipe I had fitted has started a massive leak, can't get it to seal, need new pipe.
So really sorry won't be there tomorrow.
Can anyone give Kevin a ring for me in case he doesn't pick this or his PM's up?
Scrub last bringing 463.......hope AT's are going to cope! Hasn't rained so should be OK
Thanks Chaps for a great day out!
Really pleased I took the 463 instead of staying at home.....particularly on the way home outside lane rather than inside if you get my drift!
Pleasure to meet everyone, all new to me, funny looking at the tread can't easily put forum names to real ones.
Gordon you've spoilt my driving pleasure of my G's haven driven yours yesterday I see a different path!
Shame to see those Muppets on the bikes ripping up the bog land, tempted to You Tube the video we took.
Will post my pics shortly....rebuilding brakes on 460 tonight.
Cheers
Paul
Strata is indeed a good byway. I love that one. It's been years since I've driven it.
As you say, shame about the twats who go off piste. Same here in Wiltshire. Ignorant b*$tard$!
Hi Kevin, thanks for organising Sunday, it was great to meet the others, we really enjoyed it, only sorry we had to get back and not do the other run, we landed at 7.20! It was quite an experience going up the welsh hills in a 300GD!! Looking forward to the next one.
Paul.
Kevin,
Well Done Kevin
Ok hope this works....enjoy!

Great Photos Grendle, just loved the fact that the Landrover teams were pulled to the side, probably an event of a life time seeing so many G's in one place, or had they taken a scheduled ' Quick fix' break?

Can't be mean about them Joe they were all happy and friendly knowing a decent tow was on hand
I had the Truck loaded with Kinetic ropes, strops, waffle boards & jacks didn't touch any of it,
Thanks for the comments on the photo's.....has any one got any pics of me to prove I was there??
And Spider what about a Salisbury Plain gig later in the year?

Sounds like a plan, will have to get the Southern rep to organise it.......
Joe
There you go Paul, lunchtime, not the best photo but that's you in the middle talking to Gordon.
Ah ta!
Kevin having got my head under the bonnet of Gordon's truck I never got to ask about yours! It sounded great and was quick off the mark what have you got under the bonnet? Also that's the neatest roof rack I've seen, low and with the guard at the front. Is it a Rhino? you must have modified it?
and once again thanks for running a great day.
"Standard 617 engine 509000"
Wow, but I suppose with that mileage it's nearly run in!
My 1983 460 swb has only done 130000 and I'd have had a job keeping up with the pace on Sunday
Pity you're not nearer to run an oily rag over it!
Noted the sliders too very neat again with out limiting clearance.
We do a lot of rock climbing...can't call it green laning...and I was very worried about creasing the sills, having seen a number of "other" 4x4's written off, so instead of welding the rusty sills as usual this winrter we replaced them with 3 inch box...not worried now
Hope I can make the next one. Might try to bring a couple of other G's up to.
Just seen Freds on line.
Exercise; compare and contrast:-
Catering by the G500 boys with their very own French Chef and my poor effort. Fred those steaks were excellent!
Happy days was a great trip this one too , don't seems to do that many anymore Will have to do it again .
Thanks for the interest. Nearer the time I will PM you full details of the event. Consider your space reserved.
Best Wishes
Kevin
